The Miata is a chick car? Wow, talk about weird demographics. Where I live, all of the Miatas are racing green, and driven by mustachioed men with little tweed driving caps.

Here I was thinking the Miata was just for the male menopause set. I was very afraid I'd have to get one in a couple of years. Thanks for setting me straightt guys, I'm pretty sure I won't turn into an attractive woman any time soon.

Now I can blast past them in third gear, revving high without any guilt.

Sean: where was the male ownership number for the 911? I remember seeing a similar chart a while ago, not from USA Today, that had 911 buyers at something like 95% male.

As far as the Boxster as a chick car, there are two ways to look at it:

1. Are Boxster buyers predominantly female? No.

2. Is the Boxster a "chick" car from a subjective standpoint? WHO CARES!!!

I agree with the guys who DON'T CARE whether the Boxster is labelled a "chick car." A great car is a great car, no matter who is driving it. I've seen a few housewives tooling around in 996 TT's!

I think that some of the resentment of whatever towards Boxster owners is because, in addition to die hards who post on Internet forums , a lot of non-enthusiasts drive 986 & 996's. These people just wanted a cool car and have little interest in the history of the marque. This has always been true of new Porsches. But over time, these cars will fall into enthusiast hands. Over the next 5 to 10 years, we'll see more true Porsche enthusiasts driving Boxsters. And don't get me wrong, a LOT of current Boxster owners are bonafide enthusiasts who live, eat, and breathe Porsche.

No 996 data in the recent survey because it was just for convertibles.

Just to let all of your insecure Boxster driving males know. the women of Porsche Pete's Boxster Board are getting ready to do a girls ONLY Boxster Drive.........that should add some fuel to the flame for this lame discussion.

Girls car.

Truly a lame statement. I have seen alot of vehicles driven mailny by women and from what has been stated before does this make it a girls car? No.

I have to deal with this ALOT for one main reason - my track car is a Probe. Which is classified as a 100% more girly than a boxster. I used to have to defend myself at every turn what has been done to it, the power, etc..

<a href="http://www.probesport.com/s4/MVC-001S.JPG" target="_blank">Probe pic1</a>
<a href="http://www.probesport.com/s4/MVC-004S.JPG" target="_blank">Probe pic2</a>

It is still a "Probe" and is still considered by those who "don't know" a girls car, and it always will be. I don't even bother to defend it anymore.

And I bought the car just for me and now everyone is telling me I have the ultimate chick magnet. Porsche does it again.

FWIW Probsport. I never considered the Probe a "girls" or "chic" car. 'Course I've never been into Ford's so I dismissed it offhandidly as a Ford, but not a "girly" car.

Last Sundway I was cruising back from Venice Beach in my 02 Audi S4 when I noticed a Boxster S in front of me. I was casually looking at the car when a 996 Cab pulled up alongside. The Boxster owner looked over once, the Cab owner KEPT looking over. So they take off for the next light with me in tow, highly amused at the almost but not quite light to light drag race that was developing. Next light is red more of the same, the Cab owner just couldn't stop looking over. What does that tell ya....

To my eyes the 964 Cab looks more like a Volkswagon Cabriolet(THE real chick car) than any Boxster could ever hope to. Myself, I attract the chicks in the summer and act manly sweating my *** off driving around with temperatures hovering over 95F and with humidity at 90% in a black car with a black interior and no air conditioning (just like my wood stove.) The big wing helps too.

It is a girls car... Just ask Ralphie (of the Sopranos).... He said it on TV for the whole world to think about..... The guy in the cab kept looking over because it was a girl driving the Boobster...Oops, I mean Boxter......

I like to chime in here. Before getting my 996 when new back in '99 I looked into the boxster myself which I liked but only thing prevented me from buying one is space for my wife and daughter. The 996 was my answer. Boxster is a great looking car and wouldn't hesitate to buy one(esp speed yellow/black combo). I know I could drive another car to go on long trips and all but like everyone here says nothings more enjoyable then riding a Porsche(any make). Also add in mind don't get all fired up on what people say(unless it's another brand other then Porsche-gotta bicker on some things)-if you enjoy the car then it's all that matters ie look at how the 993 vs 996 thing been going on- it's only an issue if you think it really is. I can't see such a huge following of porsche's of every make-just look at this board and it's a cult(damn good one). Regards. Mike

Jason, Jason, Jason. Such sacrilege and in this strange and foreboding place too (aka the Boxster forum).......So I'm now a cross-dressing foot fetishist (see other thread on the MotherBoard) who has a wanna-be real chick car.....I knew today was going to be a tough one

I don't know! 996 guy's being friendly, trying to catch the eye of another P owner for a friendly thumbs up and Boxster guys got an inferiority complex?

In my experience pre-964 guys always flash back, 993's usually do, 996's choose not to and boxsters don't know why I'm flashing!
