Post The best "no front plate" excuse

Okay looking for good input here.

I live in a state that requires a front plate. So far I have eluded the authorities for almost two years. I am looking for the best excuses for not having one when I do get pulled over.

"That must be what flew over my head at 140"

"I was drafting a little too close I guess"

"It was causing to much turbulance as I near the point of "inertial coupling"

"It got sucked off when I blew past that vette" Vettes do suck you know.

"I thought the dealership was supposed to put that on."

"The bolts are on back order, you know how difficult it is getting parts for German cars"

"What??? What do you mean it's not on there?

A friend was pulled over in his 911 for this. His excuse was the no vettes have front plates either. The cop waited for a vette to pass and sure enough no plate. My friend left with a warning.

One we've recommended in the past is to have the plate and mounting materials in the front trunk ready to show. Minus the screws or other critical pieces.

Explain to the officer that you were recently bumped in a parking lot and the plate fell off, but that you have ordered the plate mounting materials (from Germany, of course, and on a slow boat) and plan to remount as soon as it comes in.

"Those plugs? Well, those just cover up those nasty holes, officer."

Eric,

I'm close to your suggestion. I actually carry the plate in my (canvas) brief case (in the car) and can produce it for any inquiring law enforcement types upon request. I'd say the "shop" failed to remount the plate after installing my Ruf air dam, but promise I'll get to it "soon".

Worked once so far.

hmmm....

1. We are not allowed to have them for track events since they tend to fall off at speed (but I would never go fast on the road)

2. When I trailer the car (backwards because of the weight distribution) I can't have one since the EZ Pass toll booths see it as another car and send me a ticket automatically

3. It blocks the air to the radiator (requires center radiator) and this damn German piece of $%#& (be creative with this part) keeps overheating and leaving me stranded

4. I didn't notice it missing when I stole the car this morning

5. This car is so fast I didn't think anyone would ever see the front

6. After putting tamper proof screws on the back plate and having cool custom plates... The plate got stolen for the third time... damn kids! I'm waiting for DMV to send a new one. Note that the waiting for DMV thing may work well since it takes them 8-12 weeks to make up custom plates.

Wait... I have a front plate on my car, why do I need excuses. I actually think the Boxster looks better with a plate. My new 996... have to give that some thought though.

Try this one on for size...

Um Officer, if you had in fact READ the state statutes as I have you would know that you cannot pull me over for not having a front plate but are only at liberty to cite me for not having one if I am pulled over for another reason. Due to your lack of probable cause that I am commiting or have just committed a crime, your stop is invalid and unconstitutional. Now I don't want to have to report you to your superiors for making such a mistake, I'm a reasonable person so I'll just be on my way...

A friend of mine used to be a PI and never put his plates on any of his (or his wifes) cars for obvious reasons. Just left the temporary registration in the window for the entire time of the lease. In three years I think he said he got pulled of twice and when he did he would just produce the plates and say "I just haven't gotten around to it yet." If the cop gave him a $10 fix-it ticket, he would drive down to the copshop, put the plates on, pay the $10, drive down the block and take the plates back off. Of course he had to leave the dealer's ugly little plaque in the holders for this to work.

This may work well if you are leasing or if you turn you car over often. But if you've had, or will have your p-car for 25 years you might not be able to get away with it.

I'll probably try it for a while and see how it works out. I kind of like the dealers "porsche" plaque in the back since the background color matches my paint. And I can take the front off and say the dealer never put it on...

Just my $0.02,
/m

Try this, register the car in Tennessee,(No front plate.) To do that have your wife get a postoffice box at a Mailboxes Etc, (You would only need if for a month or two.) Put it in her maiden name, and when you get a ticket, it is just a car you borrowed. By the way, in most places it costs less than $60 to register a car in Tennessee. Of course if you had an accident, then you might have to tap dance with the insurance company, they would have lots of wierd questions.
