Default Trade my 5-speed for a Tiptronic.....?

I am the original owner of 1 1998 Boxster with 14k miles, garaged, and spotless.
It is a 5-speed. My wife wishes it was a tiptronic. Any one want to trade?
Other Ideas??????

14k in 8 years? Who drives it? I'm not sure a 1998 qualifies as a collector's item, but I cant' imagine that saving it for future generations is going to bring you much enjoyment. Take your wife to the track and let her drive it at some DE's. Hopefully she'll get hooked.

The low milage on the Boxster is due to having multiple cars( I recently sold my 86 Carrera; I still have my 96 993 as well as a few others). My wife took "stick shift" lessons and can drive the boxster, but we live in the hills near San Francisco, and the hills are a terror for her.
The Boxster is ocean blue with an anthracite interior. I will send details and photos to any interested party, or, I will show the car to any interested party.

I say teach her how to enjoy it! (Previous response is an excellent way!!) If she doesn't know how to drive a car with a manual transmission you can always show her how. That could be a great bonding experience that will make your relationship with her even better.

Don't trade it, keep it. I'll give my full opinion later if you want.

Edit- Since she can drive stick but is afraid of hills (having driven my first Mid-engine car, an MR2, just yesterday...I can say it's a little trickier) just tell her it can be fun. Shoot, I still manage to let out the clutch too early and stall a car [on level surfaces] but I'm not ashamed and I take it as a challenge. Convey the message, teach her the challenge can be fun!

I think I got it all
Sincerely,

You are all correct in that she should do all this....but the bottom line is she doesn't enjoy the car with a manual transmission and the car should be enjoyed. If we lived in a flat area she would be fine with the 5-speed...it's these damn hills!

Well, I'm a big "free will" advocate, so this is up to you and your wife.

You know our collective opinions on the matter...now it's time to decide for yourself. Do me a favour and please don't do something you think you will regret. That's all I ask!

Other than that, I wish you the best.

Happy Motoring,

You should drive a Tip car before considering a trade. I had a service loaner once with Tip and it drove me crazy.

I have driven a tip and it's OK...I prefer a manual, and my 993 is a 6-speed (I LOVE the 993)...so I am trying to make my wife happy by having a Porsche she weill drive and enjoy.
I thought a swap might be cool if there was a Boxster owner with a tip who wished it was a 5-speed.
Thanks for your thoughts............

Same here! The only good thing about it was that it made me so happy to get my 6 speed back.

Well 911Jeff, what you've learned here so far is that the worst attribute of a Tip is all the crap you get. Hope you find your trade and that your wife enjoys it!

Sorry about the crap I previously owned an Audi TT with DSG. It was an awesome system and makes Tip seem terribly dated. If Porsche ever produces a DSG you Tip guys will love it.

Thanks for all your thoughts....
I guess at some point I'll sell the Boxster and buy some Porsche sans clutch (but always keep my 6-speed 993!). My wife is a great lady (we've been married 35 years) who loves cars and all my other "hobbies". I really want to give here the Porsche driving experience without the clutch that gets in her way of pure fun.
