Default Anyone here use regular gas?

Hi,

Did a search with no definitive answers. I know the manual says 93 octane. Just wondering if anyone here actualy use regular gas only?

Thanks for the info.

Yuck! If anything, I'll try to mix in some 100 octane to boost our lousy 91 octane gas. I recommend running what the engineers designed the engine for--not more and not less. You may save 20 cents a gallon, but your engine is not running optimally, and this also affects gas mileage. Gas cost is relatively insignificant on these cars IMHO (figure in tires, insurance, depreciation, maintenance, etc.). Unless you're driving like 100 miles per day, then you should get a hybrid. That's my 2 cents, anyway.

Yep, I confess. Cheap Boxster owner. I have used the 87 stuff for over 6 years and my car is still alive. Tried 91 a few times and noticed no difference. But then I am not a race car driver and do not drive a race car and would not notice a 1 or 2 hp difference.

Mid grade most of time for our 03 Boxster. 91 for the weekends We feel a difference between the two in that the car is more responsive and more perky

Porsche engineers specify premium fuel for a reason. Do you doubt their competence? You car has knock sensors which will back off on ignition advance to try and protect the engine. Electronics can go only so far though and on a hot humid day, going up hill your car will most likely suffer pre-ignition. If you think about it, ping (as it is called) is when the fuel air mixture explodes prematurely, the piston is still on the way up. The premature explosion stops that piston dead (not the other 5, mind you, because ping will not happen in all cylinders at the same time. So, you have 5 cylinders in your 30,000 dollar engine going one way and one trying to go the wrong way. If you think this doesn't damage crankshaft bearings, conecting rod bearings and other expensive internal parts, you are drinking special kool aid. Premium fuels also contain additional additives (techron usually) to keep your engine and those precious injectors clean. As to mid grade, you can gete away with in winter if you live in a cold climate. Cold dense air is less condusive to ping than warm humid air.

Using cheap gas is a false economy IMO.

what do you mean by REGULAR gas.
i use 91 oct exclusively. i would use higher oct if i can, but here in CA 91 is all we get.
to always mix with 100 oct, i would have to store large amt of fuel in my house, wh ich is dangerous. the closest station with 100 oct is 60 miles out from my house.

I tried 87 and my fuel/performance attributes were ****...spend the extra sheckles and let's talk about why we're no longer at war with an oil producing country (we won???) (wink-wink) and gas should be 39 cents/gallon!!!!
