Trip Computer Hack for 2000 boxster to display temp, MPG, etc.
I've got all the info for doing the switch install to enable the trip computer but I had two questions.
1. What will happen if I don't disconnect the battery and I unplug the dash assembly? Will it hurt anything ?
2. My car already displayes the outside temp under the speedo, does that mean my trip computer has already been enabled and all I need is the switch ? Or will I still need to goto the P dealer to have them hook it up to their computer and enable that function ?
Thanks,
Tom

Curious if I could do this -hack- on an '03 model, non S? Only had this car a week (wifey's car) and I think its a really fine car. Well balanced, tidy and fun to drive. Even with the Tip

Our local group made a DVD of several OBC retrofits, with the stalk and with the switch. We did film a 2000 and a 2003.
For post #1, if you can see the temp display then the trip computer has already been turned on. Just disconnect the battery. I have done about 40 retrofits over the years and with just a few exceptions I always disconnect the battery.

Our '03 Boxster does not display outside temps. I assume this feature can be enabled via PS2, or whatever this diagnostic piece of equipment is called?
Tool Pants, now I just have to get a hold of this DVD. Where do I send my money?
Thank you.

OK never mind, I found the hack. If I understand correctly, the fact that the outside temperature is displayed underneath my digital speed readout means that the OBC is turned on in my '00 "S"? If so then all I need to do is install a switch?

By the way, here is the link to the hack....http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/mods/obc/ there may be many others but this is the clearest one I found

I did the hack as described in the above link and all went well except the light bulb that lights my clock/oil level but]rnt out. My guess is that I was too rough and the filiment went kaput.
Looking at the little twist in bulb, it must be a dealer only item.
Anyone have this happen before ?

Wow, a thread from 2005.... I would like to know the hack too, but this seems like an unlikely way to find it. Makes me want to do some Googling, though.
