Default Should I warranty a used Boxster S?

Thanks to a lot of insight from the posts on this forum, I purchased a used Boxster S - 2001 Lapis Blue/Savannah Beige with 30k. I love it!

Question: I was offered an after market warranty through GM (yes, the Porsche dealership will service it), but that will add $3400 to my purchase price. I will drive a maximum of 9000 mi per year. By the completion of the warranty I will have 75k miles total in the next 5 years (the length of the warranty).

Any insight as to $$$ spent on repairs (not wear and tear items) by the time a Boxster S has reached 75,000 miles? Is this warranty a good idea? Are the chances good that I will not spend $3400 on non wear and tear items by 75000 miles. Your responses are appreciated.

Thanks,
VROOOM

Yes Definately get the extended warranty. I see porsches everyday that need something done either major or minor but the costs of the parts or labor prohibits the owner from getting their car repaired.
Then the problem gets worse and next thing you know, it snowballed and the owner eventually gets rid of it...

$3400 for an extra 35k miles is cheap insurance IMO....

I'd spend a lot of time reading the actual contract.Whats does it cover? What are the listed components? Will it cover oil leaks or just major engine repairs? Will it pay diag. time everytime the CEL comes on or do you have to pay to find out whats wrong to see if it is covered component? Will they force used/recycled parts to be used on your car? What defines a wear and tear item to them?Lots of variables to consider.READ EVERY LINE OF A FULL CONTRACT,not just the glossey brochure that the F&I guy is showing you.Last thing....that price has over 100% markup in it.

Good point - parts are new, remanufactured or non-original. NOT covered: belts, non-metal hoses, brake pads and rotors, clutch, spark plugs, etc. COVERED: electronics (incl. power locks and windows), metal hoses, convertible motor, AC, heater, enclosed engine parts, seals and gaskets, suspension, ABS, transmission (not clutch), fuel system, suspension (incl. bushings and links, bearings) etc. As well, for a $50 fee I could transfer the contract if I sell the car, or get back some $$$ on a standardized schedule.

If this is a 100% mark-up, where can I get a better deal from a reputable company?

My fear is that even getting to the engine could be expensive.

I got one from CWS $2100 for 70,000 miles bumper to bumper with roadside assistance (minus maintenance). My 2000S purchased in 2004 only had 10,000 miles when I purchased it.
The deductible is $100 per visit.
I wasn't aware of the RMS failures before I bought the extended warranty, I'm thinking it should be covered. Afraid to ask..

Verify that it covers complete motor replacement. If not, it's not worth it IMO.

Good point Doug.

Sweet 911 photo, though I am partial to your previous picture.

Check out the warranty carefully. If it covers RMS and valve gaskets and you can get a reasonable price, it's worth it. I brought one for my 993, it was for 2 yr or 30K mile. I only used it once, but it was a 4K expense (rms and valve cover leak) it more than paid double for itself. I now have a warranty from the same company for my Boxster - 48 mo or 60K mi for $2100 bumper to bumper. Hopefully I will never need it but I've had 2 rms on the S so there's more than a 50/50 chance this warranty will pay off-again. Good luck!

$3400 is too much. Save your money. Chances are slim that you'll spend that much on a failure of any kind.

Member's Choice Autocare which is from CUNA Mutual Insurance Society. I just checked my policy and I actually paid $2000 for 48 additional months or 60,000 additional miles bumper to bumper coverage w/$100 dedcutible. Good Luck.

I have a "new" one, but it's a .gif that's too large. I'll stick with this one for now.
