Default First Post 1999 Boxster

Hi all,
I have a very stock 1999 Guards Red Boxster. This is my first Porsche. The red 1963 Cabriolet I missed out on in 1974 still haunts me. The 59 1600 Super I coveted never came home with me. I souped up my 57 Oval window, owned a bunch of German and British cars and drove the hell out of a few tweaked 5.0 Mustangs, but never a Porsche,
I've had it for 1 1/2 years. It has 52,300 miles on it. It's an easy and logical car to work on. It drives like a dream. Light on horsepower, but the way it drives makes me smile from ear to ear.
I've taken care of the basics. It has fresh plugs and filters, oil, coolant, water pump and belt, fresh tires front and rear. The previous owner did the clutch, top and not much else.
Last year around this time I was taking it out for one last drive before storing it and some A hole in a Dodge Ram truck creamed me in the rear driver's quarter panel. I was exiting a one lane bridge and he didn't slow down for the bridge or let me off of it. The moron ran into the bridge after hitting me. Anyway, the insurance did not total it but the repair shop didn't want to repair it. They thought it might be a can of worms. I begged and they agreed to fit it in. Fit it in meant it sat there for 10 months before it was done.
There was some hidden damage. Some suspension parts were replaced, it got a new wheel, bumper cover etc. There was all told nearly $10k in work. I paid for a few extras...Insurance was willing to pay for one tire, I paid for the other, they paid for one strut, I paid for the other. That sort of thing.
I have it back. It looks great again. So far it's running nicely so I think the "Ram incident" is behind us. Now I'd like to deal with a couple minor issues. I see some of the grey paint on the roll bars has chipped off. That same paint is also on the door handles, the center console etc. I do not want to repaint any of that so, where can I get matching original paint? I searched this forum and did not find anything. I'm sure I'm not the first owner looking for this.

Sorry, no help with paint.

However, I am 5 months out and waiting for repairs from left of center mini-van impact to my driver's rear quarter. I was one day out of winter storage. FWIW your post has to a certain degree reassured me on repair time. Thank you.

Silver painted roll bars was option XMY (black is standard). Perhaps check the build label on the underside of the front deck lid to see if that option is there. If silver, get some Arctic Silver touch up paint.

Thanks. Good advice. I'll see what that leads to.

What I am guessing you are referring to is the matte finish silver/gray sparkle paint that is part of the P69 sport design interior package. I see you have sport seats which was part of the package so I am guessing that is what your car has. You can look in the trunk and find an option sticker with the code. There is a color of duplicolor textured paint that matches it but unfortunately it is discontinued (MX102 I think in the part number). I am looking for the same paint myself as I have the same interior so let me know if you find some somewhere as I have scoured the net and ebay with no luck. There is a thread at 986forum detailing how close it matches the factory finish.

That's it. You nailed it. It sounds like finding it will be a pita. Maybe I'll get lucky.

It used to be pretty common at all the major parts stores. There are I think 3 colors but the other two are darker finish and sadly are the ones still available. It's worth checking out places probably like napa where you may get lucky and find it sitting on a shelf collecting dust.

Given that the off the shelf stuff is gone, you may need to take it to the next level. Try one of the following, perhaps?

I have a 2000 S with the SportDesign package (option code 012) so am also interested in the "matte finish silver/gray sparkle paint".

Congrats on your first Porsche. Boxsters are fun cars.
