Default Comfortable after a couple of hours?

I somehow recall a comment about the Boxster not being comfortable for long drives, anything over a couple of hours. What has been your experience and if this is true did you do anything in particular to solve this?
Thanks

I driven down south as far as South Carolina from New York. It was a blast. I stop twice in a 13 hr trip. Felt very comfortable hrs at a time. I,m 5'10, 200lbs. Size can be a factor in comfort.

Julie and I drove our first Boxster to Florida for vacation a few years ago. From Cinci that's a looong drive. I'd have to say overall it was very comfortable. I certainly don't remember feeling bad after a day long drive.

Now I regularly drive to Indy or South Bend to visit family (2.5 and 4.5 hr drives). Overall the Boxster is comfortable, but I have to say my butt isn't made for long distance traveling anymore. The drone can wear on me a little, too. But that's probably more me than the car.

I've not tried a long trip with the top down, we always travel with it up. Once in my convertible VW I drove from Cinci to Muncie (about 2 hours) with the top down. By the second hour, my head was pounding from all of the wind buffeting, etc. I'm sure a Boxster would be better, especially if you have the windblocker. But still...after a while, that has to wear on you regardless.

As for how do help this situation....maybe if we made more frequent stops. The problem with going the same route after a while is there are no more "surprises", the route gets boring, and you just want to get there as quickly as possible. If we relax and take our time, car rides seem to be more comfortable in general. Maybe that's why the day long trip to Florida seemed easier than the 4.5 - 5 hour drive to South Bend?!

...oh...5'-11"...200+ lbs....

Drive 5-6 hour runs on the weekends. Very agreesive driving, top up, and I love the comfort. The only beef I have is with my original Pirelli P-zeros that are loud and put a little high pitched vibration at the floor board and pedals.

5'5", 170lbs.

My wife and I have taken several trips of four to six hour duration with little problem with comfort. I do the driving and she hangs on. We drove around Lake Superior last summer in three days of comfortable driving about 1600 miles. I am 6' 2" and 230 pounds. My wife has frequently complained of long drives in other cars, but not the Boxster.

And how do or did you like your TT, how does it compare to the Boxster?

bcgreen-my wife has had an audi tt, and now has an 04 boxster. the tt had greater power, but the boxster has tighter handling. i would suppose that a boxster s would have equal power. there is more room in a tt. i guess you could say that the boxster handles more like a sports car, and the tt feels more like a sports sedan (like a 540i). the turbo lag is almost imperceptable in the tt. they are both great cars-the new tt sounds impressive.

Default TT vs Boxster

The TT is also great for long drives. I took several runs to Montreal to the Grand Prix a total of 17 hours driving, 12 hours the first day and five hours the next day. The TT has slightly more leg room for me and is very comfortable. No real fatigue after driving long distances. The handling and overall balance of the Boxster is better then the TT, but both cars are great cars. My TT is 180 hp and the Boxster is 258 hp, so the performance with the Boxster is better. Slight turbo lag with the TT, but you get used to it. The TT is now my winter beater and I can't wait until spring to get the Boxster out again.

How could it be any less comfortable than a 996?

I notice you own a Z06. Thats on my list of 3 cars that am having the darndest time deciding. I really like the reliability of the Z, the low maintenance, and the good fuel economy on the hwy. I like the looks of the Boxster, but the maintenance costs is something I am concerned about, because I tend to keep my cars a long time.

BCGreen, I'm 5'10", 180 lbs. The Boxster is like putting on driving gloves. You sort of sit IN the seats. I have the big sport seats in 993TT so they sort of grab you by the shoulders. It's purely subjective, but the Z06 feels huge by any comparison.

IMHO the only problem with driving a Boxster all day would be if one was too large for the seats. I personally like them...

You shouldn't be. Really.
