SCCA FP Cayman S
Well I built a fairly quick FP Boxster several years ago. Now time to try similar approach with my 2010 Cayman S. I'm starting with 3436 cc 9A1 motor car which means my class weight is 2577 lbs. I'm going to stick to wheels under 10 inches to avoid additional 100 lb penalty . Interesting to note 987 S has 49cc less displacement than my newer 987.2 S . I hadn't realized this until classing the car. Means 987.2 has to run 36 lbs heavier than 987 in FP.
Will run 295/30/18 Hoosier A7 in rear and 285/30/18 front. To get to 2577 lbs have stripped rear of car, removed OEM front and rear bumper bars, stripped front trunk, installed race seats and Momo steering wheel. Have Getty fiberglass doors and headlight covers. Lightweight battery, headers, lightweight flywheel, JRZ coilovers, lightweight Jongbloed wheels 18x10 rear and 18x9 front. Added in weld in Rollbar. Keeping AC as I like to stay cool on grid. Best yet it's staying street legal as I can pop headlights in and easily put stock doors back on. I like idea of a street legal prepared car. I'm thinking I should be very close to 2577 lb minimum weight just with these mods. If not I have a fiberglass hatch but would like to keep OEM hatch on the car.
Should be interesting as I will be running 400 to 500 lbs heavier than many of the cars but should have power advantage on smaller displacement NA cars like boxster, S2000, 240z. Turbo AWD are closer to my weight but will likely have more power.

For now the stock 6 speed that came in the car with a Guard LSD. the car accelerates pretty well on 30 series 18" tires. With weight out of the car it becomes pretty dang quick for a 3.4 liter. I have done typical bolt on stuff. Headers, IPD Comp Plenum , GT3 TB, race gas tune.
As I get more serious I may look at what legal stuff I can do to internals as I think this motor has potential to develop some real HP. ...well at least in the world of FP. Cant remember if I can shave heads to increase compression ratio. If I can that will definitely be on the list.
Once I get power up a little higher then think I can go for 12" rear wheels and 11 inch fronts with bigger tires. Probably will sell my PCCB brakes and go with lightweight aftermarket brake that lets me run 16 inch wheels.
...or I just need to figure out how I get 400 HP from the new 2.0 turbo Boxster motor and how I can fit it in the car. LOL!

So I guess it's like lighter more powerful version of your ASP car with little less tire. Curious what was weight of your ASP Cayman? I'm thinking I will be running 2577 lbs and making 340 crank HP. More torque than 987 too. Car definitely boogies. Much faster than FP Boxster when it had 2.5. From watching vids of new 2.7 still think I have better power. Just giving up huge weight advantage to that car. Especially since I'm a big boy at 275 lbs.
So I need a course that has some power sections but not enough to let evo and subi unleash all the turbo torque with lower gears drag race me.

Ran the car this past weekend. Its quick but has a couple issues. it was getting a bit tail happy in fast slaloms. This was very fast AX and I got into 3rd gear where I was bogging down.
Car could use more tire. I need to figure out how to get 285 under front and 295 or 315 under rear. Wondering how much flare I will need.

Hoosier 255 up front. They are wider than typical 255. They are mounted on 18x9 inch front . I do worry about making big changes few weeks before Nationals but think car would work better with more tire. I just can't see how 285 fits without rubbing fender but I know people do it.
I didn't care about my Boxster and just used a baseball bat to flare fenders on car in my avatar. Lol! Would like to maintain fenders in stock config for now on Cayman

285's in front require lowering the top of the strut below the center hole in the body, or cutting it open more. On my car we machined the strut shaft a bit shorter to do this. Do not space out the lower arm, that will eat up your fender clearance.
285 on 18x10 or 10.5 will tuck into the fender like this. 295's will work, but not tuck so you have to run the car a bit higher. 315's on the rear need the top strut mount bolt holes slotted to pull the top in. Then they will just barley squeeze in.
Consider the 16" slick route, Erik has gone much faster after switching to it, and he used to run 285/315 on 11&12s.

Thanks! Yeah I originally sold the Boxster to Erik with 16's I ran the car with 16 inch Avon Sliicks. I actually ran 15's with cantilever slicks for awhile! Erik wanted to run those 18's with A6's because they were same size as their RX7 used. Issue with 16 inch wheels on my current Cayman is they wont fit with PCCB's

I'm looking at ASP for next year and I'm looking at the fronts and I see that you are trying to fit 285 in the front. looking at he A7's what are you gaining short of the 0.1" in the tread but 0.7 wider section and 2 lbs heaver. OK what am I missing in this for only a small increase in the tread?
