Just got back from Lincoln, NE, where I competed in the 38th annual SCCA National SOLO II competition. I was co-driving a car owned by good friend and fellow Rennlister, Radomin Delgado (NJ-GT). The new A Stock is pretty much C5 (non-Z06) Corvettes versus Boxster S and Cayman S. We drive Rad's '07 Cayman S.
We finished one and two, with a Boxster S driven by Eric Trigg from Gulf Coast Region (hell of a nice guy and awesome driver) taking third. 1-2-3 podium!
The experience was awesome. I highly recommend to anyone that loves autocross, at least once in their lives. It is a whole different ballgame out there!

Nice. Well done!
I couldn't imagine Rad's smile getting any bigger than it already was, but I'm sure it did when he took home the coveted championship trophy! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy...

If anyone could pull it off it would be you and Rad. Congrats again.

Thanks a lot.
The event was the best ever SCCA Solo National Championship, the people, the logistics, it just gets better every year I go there. This was my fourth trip to Nationals, with the first trip picking up a 2nd place in class FP with my 996 GT3, then another trip in 2008 driving a rental Z06 in class SS and horrible driving skills, then 2009 with the Ferrari and more horrible driving, then 2010 with the Cayman S.
The Cayman S was well behaved at the ProSolo and day 1 at Nationals. Day 2 the car was too slow, I wanted to put another set of tires for day 2 but Hoosier ran out of A6 on my sizes, curiously the guys right behind me shopping for tires looked familiar, they were running the Boxster S that got 3rd place in our class, they corded their tires after just 20 laps.
As much as I like the Cayman S, I prefer it as a daily driver than as an autocross car. Not too good as a track car either unless you have a stack of spare engines, transmissions, power steering pumps.
A car that I setup in my garage for a friend (997 GT3) did very well in ASP, last trophy spot. Another car I give all the support I can, and good friend did very well in SS (996 GT3) 4th and 9th and on the trophies.
Super nice guy and good friend Jonathan Jackson made the podium in class FP with his 914, while Super nice Jodi Fordahl took the National Championship in class FPL. My former co-driver and National Champion in class FPL in 2006 Stephanie Chang did it again this year in my Cayman S taking the class ASL National Championship.
Dave Newman took 5th place and a trophy in class XP with his 1970 911, were cars in class are twice as powerful and lighter than Dave's 911.
Porsches had a good show this year, this is the year I saw the most Porsches ever at SCCA Solo Nationals, it was a great sight.
Now, back to the drawing board, the Cayman needs to lose 150 lbs and it is finally getting racing shocks and even bigger tires.

I was reading through last months Sportscar and their preview of the Solo nationals. Seems they mention Rad's Cayman.. that Stephanie would drive it and should win her class.. and that Rad was "bringing a ringer" to co drive.. but they never thought it would be Rad/Drew 1-2 in class. Again.. well played.
