986 Boxster S reclassified to C Stock in SCCA autocross
http://scca.com/documents/Fastrack/0...strack-nov.pdf
The SEB has recommended a restructuring of the Stock classes to the BoD. This restructuring combines the old B Stock and C Stock classes into one class, C Stock. It also creates a new "tweener" class between the old Super Stock and A Stock (the tweener class becomes A Stock while the old A Stock becomes B Stock).
The surprising thing in all of this is that, instead of simply being relabeled as B Stock along with the rest of the former A Stock cars, all of the 986 Boxsters and Boxster S's have been moved to the new C Stock.
Given that the Boxster S was reasonably competitive in the old A Stock, it may very well be an overdog in the new C Stock. I'm beginning to regret selling mine.

The SAC had put a hold on the S, but it looks like the SEB did over ride
their proposals. the Bod usually just rubber stamps the SEB proposal.
I think it would be good for the class. I don't think it is a Typo. do you have proof that it was.
thanks Rob

This is why I gave up trying to buy a car based on what was competitive in an SCCA class.
It'll be interesting to see how this pans out though. Might upset a lot of miata owners...also known as the entire SCCA.

The SAC did NOT recommend the S. It is a typo. The 986 will be extremely competitive in the new C stock. Get a '99 2.5 with M030 and you'll have a great car for the class.

It looks like the 2.7 Cayman moves from AS to BS along with almost every other car in AS. All it means is that I need to get a new letter for the side of my car. I don't see any mention of 09+ Caymans. I don't think they are different enough from the 08s to be in a different class.
It also looks like the Cayman S is now a little more competitive since it is getting moved to AS and that class is getting cleaned out. It's against a much smaller pool of cars.

Competitiveness isn't a function of how many distinct models are eligible for that class, but rather what the fastest of those cars are. The Cayman S should fare much better in the new A Stock than it did in the old Super Stock because the new AS's cars are slower than the old SS's -- the top dog will likely be the C5 Corvette, which owned Super Stock before the Z06, Elise, and GT3 came along.

'05 - '08 Cayman S: SS --> AS
'09+ base Cayman: Stays in AS
'09+ Cayman S: Stays in SS
