Who likes turbo cars for autcross? Not sure what you are used to but we see a lot of tight turns over here and the turbo cars never do well.

993 TT here at Devens often gets FTD. Runs with hooters.

There was a quick GT2 ASP car at the Packwood NT. He got us by 3-4 tenths....not to mention everyone else in his class. The rain and/or brain fade got him on the 2nd day.....the same as us'n.
His "prep" prolly cost more than my car.

The newer turbos do well....those that come on down low & smoothly, apparently......Subies, Porsches, Mitsus.

Twin Turbo for autocross - YES

Single Turbo for Autocross - NO

Often too much "lag" on Porsches with single turbos. Twins spool up nice and low - no lag.. just hp!

BTW, if a deep pocket book is your situation, Leeds Gulick's 914 is for sale.
55K was bandied about. Dunno if a quicker Porsche AX car exists....if you can drive the thing. Greg Fordahl & Leeds can.

The modern twin-turbo GT2 isn't like a 935--the torque curve is so broad that it is hard to tell it isn't just a really mean NA engine--not the kind of laggy, peaky power that characterized the old single turbos. Lots of people have had plenty of success with them in Solo2, including James Gunn-Wilkinson from here in San Diego, who drove Harry Rady's GT2 to a National Championship in ASP in 2005, as well as Pilar Miranda from Morgan Hill, who won the ASPL class in 2006 in the same GT2 that Christopher *** took 2nd place with in the open division, losing to a Z06 by only a few tenths, IIRC.

At the PCA Parade autox this year, Steve Eguina took 4th TTOD with an Improved class GT2 (beaten only by Modified cars) while his wife took TTOD for ladies in the silver one below.

All it takes are deep pockets and some good setup (not to mention you still have to drive it well!) I could never afford one myself, but if money is no object and you are able to write the checks, why not?

My .02 cents says that an early 911 will kick *** as will a 993 C2S in A/Stock. Interesting that SCCA has put the 997 GT-3 in the unapproved for stock in 2007. It would be the kick *** winner in S/S. You can run ASP or SM2 with it and also be competitive. The Boxster S is still a good choice since it got moved down to A/S from S/S.
Race 914's are a dime a dozen compared to the aforementioned 993, 997, and Boxster S.
I gave up in S/S with my 2003 C2 because the PSM system was not updated until 2006 to allow for left foot braking.

A 996tt can do well:

http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/Results...onship/t2.html (an indexed class so a better car must win by a significant margin)
http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/Results...nship/asp.html
http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=112495

Here's an overall list for an event last year with Chris ***, Pilar Miranda etc: (and no, I didn't pick this at random )

Paul Kozlak (who occasionally posts on this forum) actually won the A Stock national championship in his 993 in 2005.

That's exactly why they haven't put it in Super Stock -- there are currently at least three cars that can win, the cheapest of which is available used for around $30k, and they don't want to kill the class with a $100k car.

I think the Cayman is the best out of the box by far.

Just thought I'd throw this out there: PCA National Champion drives a 944. She drives in our local region.

Yes, Porsches do very well at PCA Parade. I think Porsches won every class again this year.

"I think the Cayman is the best out of the box by far." I wish you were right about this, McGarrett. If it were true, we'd see more national level contenders driving them.

After being at a PCA Autox yesterday and seeing almost all models, including a CGT, the Cayman S was the most formidable and put up the best times.

All the top drivers there were in different models and even the CGT could not keep with the Cayman.

SCCA

996 GT3 SS or FP
GT2 ASP

Paul Koslak quit the 993 as it was not competative in AS on Asphalt.

93/94 RSA might be competitive in BS but nobdy has prepped one.

Peter
