Default Fordahl's 944 setup

I am shopping for a 944 as a weekend toy and autocrosser. I will likely run the car in E Stock for a year or 2 before going crazy with mods and moving up, and I'm interested in the setup on Greg and Jodie Fordahl's car that they used to such good effect at Nationals a few weeks ago (Greg trophied in ES, Jodie won ESL). Anybody know the details (what year car, shocks, tire size, etc.)?

I was the tire warmer/co-driver and drove the car two weekends before going to Nationals. 1984, no sunroof, M030, adjustable front bar, Koni, 225/45 Hoosiers.

Interesting. My research says to avoid the pre-85.5 cars. Any reason to pass on a really nice 85 (I've found one semi-locally)?

Greg's 944 is a family heirloom. His father ordered it with input from Greg.

You might check into what it takes to convert the suspension to M030. The later cars are quite involved and expensive.

Hay Leeds, since you're passing out set-up info on 944s, how about something on your 914

Engine repaired (tensioner idler gear arm broke allowing chain to jump and minor valve bending) and converted from PMO carbs to Motec fuel injection. Engine installed and in the process of finishing up details like throttle cable, electical, new headers, etc.

What is included in the M030 package? Why would a similar upgrade cost more on a 85.5 and up car?

Different pieces involved. For instance in my 2003 Boxster S M030 includes springs, shocks and front sway bar that list for a total of about $2,000. Years ago I gave up pricing the pieces for a 944S2 or 944 Turbo when I reached $10,000. Apparently the beginning year for the expensive M030 is 1987. Additional items included complete struts, hubs, a-arms, trailing arms, etc. The M030 was not really offered in the 1984 944 but the M404 and M474 options included shocks and larger sway bars.
