Just bought a heavily mod'd out 2006 Cayman S. Local P-club is confused on what class to put me in. Me, I'm definitely a novice, only done 2 autox's.
The car: 2006 Cayman S with Tiptronic Flat 6 Innovations Stage II Engine Rebuild
Cayman R Suspension Girodisc Slotted Brake rotors
Carnewal Modified Stock Exhaust Softronic intake plenum and DME flash
Power Steering cooler BBI Harness/Rollbar
Recaro racing seats
5 point harness
19" Champion forged track wheels with Federal 595R5-Pros

When I recently bought my first P car ( 718 GTS), I realized that many if not all PCA have their own local rule point based system which don't necessarily match any rules used at Natl events, none of which SCCA rules. My advice would be to find local rules points structure yourself, be honest as to changes and self class.
Figure out where you would be and why and then discuss any local differences with the local region. If you know your PCR class they can probably translate that to a local class without too much trouble. Like Earlydays said you are probably in Production (P) class. I think, w/r/t the PCR, you would be P04 (page 20).
...............and after you have pulverized a few pylons, get some decent sticky tires as those Federals are not assisting all the fun things your car has had done.
Here's an easy answer: If your local region has a NOVICE class, enter that! Some clubs will just do Novices and not worry about competition, gives you a year to gain experience.
Otherwise, like edfisherjr says, give your best guess, tell the club up front your thinking, enter, and drive!
Had a looooooong conversation with our autox leader, we've come to the conclusion I am definitely SSM, mostly due to my engine being bored out from a 3.4 to at 3.8.
Doesn't look like you've pulled much weight out of the car, if any. It's going to be an XA car. At most SCCA events XB is actually going to be the softer class, but you get hammered on index. SSM also sounds like a place you could go. Obviously SSM or XP are the places you need to be looking if you're not planning on running a 200tw tire.

XA is going to be a softer PAX than SSM since you'll likely be running 200TW tires.
