Default 718 Cayman GTS Autocross Super Street Build

So I decided to trade in my base 718 Cayman that I ran in A Street last season for a leftover 718 Cayman GTS that I will run in Super Street class for 2019. So far I've purchased new Forgeline GS1R wheels in Gunmetal (I wanted a change from black) 19x8.5 w/55mm offset and 19x10.5 w/45mm offset. I decided to only go 2mm from stock offsets on each wheel, so I have the option of running 5mm spacers on either end to fine tune the handling and stay within the 7mm from stock offset requirement. I will start out running my current RE-71Rs in 255/35r19 front and 285/35r19 rear tires from last season. I'm not sure if I'm going to move to 265/305 or stick with 255/285 yet. I also ordered the AWE Tuning "Touring Edition" exhaust system. This will add a few HP and reduce overall weight by ~6lbs (in addition to improving the exhaust soundtrack). I also plan to run the DSC Sport Controller (although I'm not too happy about this one, because they never should have allowed this in Street class to begin with). I'll keep this updated with my progress. Next on the list is an alignment.

I'm jealous. Let us know how it goes! It would really help SCCA evaluate the e-shock rule if you're able to do as scientific a test possible on the DSC. Is it something you can swap out easy in paddock? I'm with you that it should never have been allowed, though.

Thanks! Good idea. I will check, but I believe the DSC is plug and play.

In my car the pasm controller is in the right corner of the trunk, pretty easy to get to. I think you can get to it by just pulling the small carpeted side panel. without seeing it, I would assume the DSC controller connects between the pasm controller and the shocks.

The PASM controller for 987/997 is in the passenger foot-well and a bit of a contortion to work on, but otherwise pretty easily accessible. DSC has a 1:1 replacement for the OEM controller for 987 and 981. DSC isn't listing a plug and play module for 718 on their website yet.

I'm not sure about PASM controller location for 981/718, though; which model do you have, motoring?

Ah, OK, was nice to meet you in person! Tough to keep names, faces, cars, and screen names straight.

What is your reasoning for not liking the addition of the DSC Sport Controller? I see zero issue with it and welcome it as I don't want to end up spending $12k on shocks I can adjust. I would much rather have the ability to adjust shock settings for $1100. Seeing that you are most likely going to be in the Philly area, I am sure I will be seeing you around in SS

Are you having any rubbing issues with the larger than OEM tire sizes? Any concerns of that if you decide to go 265/305? Are the RE-71R's the unanimous choice?

I've been out of the autocross game for about 5 years, and I've never done the street tire thing. Now that I've got a 718 CS, I kind of want to see how competitive it can be with minimal prep. I have a feeling it's probably not a National's level trophy chaser in SS, but I sure hope your GTS can prove it's worthy. I'll definitely be following along, if you continue to share. Good luck!

No rubbing concerns with my 255/285 setup, as I ran this same setup on my base 718. I’ll need to check the clearance and may have to run 5mm spacers if I move up to the 265/305 setup, but I’ll know better once I get the new wheels installed.

The RE-71R tires still seem to be the best overall choice due to the excellent overall grip, stiff sidewalls and the Porsche friendly tire size options.

No major updates, as the weather here is still cold and snowy. I did get my tires mounted onto the new wheels, and the AWE Touring exhaust and DSC Sport controller are on their way. Hopefully I’ll have these all installed by the end of the month in time for the first NNJR SCCA event at MetLife.

Nice! Surprised you didn’t squeeze 265s up front. I ran 265/285 in BS last year in the 987.

It you're able to run 265/305... I may have to step up my plans to by a GTS.

Some updates.

I've installed the wheels, along with the DSC Sport Controller. I'm waiting on the exhaust for another week or so. The DSC Sport controller was super easy to install. It's mounted in the frunk and access is super easy. Here is a quick step by step.

First open the hood and take out the driver's side emergency roadside kit.

Next, peal back the side carpet and twist out light bulb, so you have more room to access the factory PASM controller.

Then just remove the two 10mm bolts and slide off the plugs. Plug in the DSC Sport Controller and install is in reverse. It took about 5 min max.

Here's a couple of pics of the wheels on the car:
