718 Cayman GTS Autocross Super Street Build

Had my first event in the GTS today. Took an educated guess on the alignment based on previous Porsche experience and it paid off. Car was very good with minor push at the limit which made it easy to drive. I can see where using a DSCsport to customize the shocks a bit would help especially on low speed corner's entry. Very fun car to drive and probably more competitive in SS than I would have guessed.

Those are the 20s. OZ HLT 20x8.5/10.5 with 255/285 35/20 Yokos.
Also wondering what are your wheel offsets, and are they different than the Carrera Sport Classics stock offsets.
And what did you think of the Yokos on your car ? Do you have experience with other tires on the car. I figure the Yokos are pretty tall, and raise the center of gravity and may not respond that quickly, but I’m sure the steady state grip is amazing.
Thanks for any insight.

I just don't have much feedback yet. I have 7 runs on the car total. It is SPASM. Offsets are 5mm above stock minimum (47ET front, 55ET rear), I have 5mm to test max offset in the front but it looks a bit close at max neg camber. I have only run Yokos on a students car for a run so no basis on another car nor another tire on this car but I would say they remind me of like A3S03/4 Hoosiers as I think you go that far back. Vague but hold a line and put down power super well. The COG raise is in the noise IMO, probably similar to the regular PASM if you think about it. With RE71R EOL, There really isn't a front tire that would I run in 20" in 2021. Yokos don't come in 19s for the right size rear. If you run asphalt primarily, I'd want to be on yokos. Lincoln it's less clear. So far my front looks like they havent been used but the rears definitely show wear, and this is at an extremely high wear track autox with banked turns.

Thanks for the info. A3S03/4 is a looong time ago with Hoosier Tom ! Good luck in 2021.
You think a 245/35 in a RE71R isn’t a good front tire ? Or rather the Yokos don’t have a good front in a 20” size.
What do you mean RE71R EOL (end of life ?)..........is a new RE71 variant coming out ? RE71S ?
I have a old RE71R front 245/20 and Rear 295/20 on a set of wheels waiting for an autox one day. Bridgestone discontinued to 295/20.

Yeah Bridgestone is no longer making the RE71R to make way for the RS version, and it's a bit more aimed at longevity than autox speed. I think the 245/35 RE71R could easily work if you get the toe/sway bar matched to it. It's only a 8.5" wheel so I don't think a 255 is that big of an increase. I'm one of those guys that think most autoxers sweat details that really don't matter that much when you are giving up a lot more time in your driving. Only thing is just to make sure you get the OD's within spec so you don't freak the electronics. I have two more autoxes this year before Time Trials Nats, we'll see how it goes with more seat time and runs on the Yokos. I'll post some video of the one this weekend.

This past weekend, I had a two day event and opted to run without camera or data. There were 100+ both days with 2-3 former Nat'l champs (Leeder 19 DS champ, Nick Myers CM champ) and 20+ Nat'l trophy winners. I'm still on 265/35-19F and 285/35-19 rears. The car was re-aligned since my maiden event and any mold release was non-existent. Courses were fast mostly flowing 50 seconds in length. Goal was to be in top 10 on index given the competition. 7th on day one chasing Matt Waldbaum (3rd in ES 2019), 11th (shown as 12th with a driver having a timing error) day two chasing Leeder. All in all, car was much more stable, but I'm still working on the nut behind the wheel. I'll take some video at the next event and post up for comparison. I feel certain the stagger I'm running is too small and the perfect setup will be 265/305 provided there are 19" competitive tires in 2021. I think I may test some GY SC3's next year given everything I've seen with Devin McCuen in his M2.
FYI -- I spoke the guys at Apex as to whether they were going to be coming out with a set of 19" wheels we could use for our cars. They are coming out with 19" wheels but the front offset is 47 and the rear is 44. That means you'd have to have 3mm shaved from the hub to be legal within 7mm offset. Not sure how comfortable I'd be with that. Any opinions. wheels will be offered in an intro group buy in October or November with anticipated delivery between December and February.

I'll pass on shaving wheels and 19"s for now. I'm not convinced to try another tire yet but maybe wear will change my mind. finally configured racecapture on solostorm so I'll have some more data and probably get a good 8-10 runs and this time I have the front offset maxed out.

Event #2 in the GTS is in the books. Today was pretty hot and I had a lot of reruns due to downed cones so even less time between runs to let the Yokohamas cool properly. That said the car rotated well like my old Elise but completely predictable and confidence inspiring I was able to attack every section and feature. I think I'll have time to realign the car before the next autox to see what just a bit of rear toe in would do. Here's the video:

Correct, left means manual mode. Mostly the PDK auto mode is great. However it is not aggressive in selecting 1st and with the turbo lag you can get in this car at slow digs in the 25-30mph it is needed and a big advantage over some other cars. To get PDK to downshift you need more throttle than I want to apply initially and by the time it agrees about the downshift I feel like some time is lost. This is an autox problem, not a track problem since it seems to center itself around the 2-1 shift. I could just probably leave the lever on the right side and click down to 1st but its a habit from the CAMC ZL1 A10 I was running this last year.

I've tried it both ways. The pdk is pretty good at making the shifts at very near optimum thresholds with it to the right. You should be aware though at any time with it in that mode, you can manually shift it to 1st in a slow speed turn around but you need to remember it is now in "manual" mode and may not transition to 2nd until the computer wants to kick in. It's a learning process coming out of only driving manual autocross cars for 20 years.

Exactly, which to me makes it pretty pointless to have it in the right position if you know you are forcing it to 1st in a corner at any point in the course. Also, just like the camaro, I tend to use early upshifts to 2nd as a traction control measure as a point I know I might get wheel spin. I think in some corners its PTV adding in a variable I'm dealing with in 1st gear to get the right amount of yaw vs wheel spin as I overload the outside tire because of it.
