718 Cayman GTS Autocross Super Street Build

I bought one of these for just PCA autocrosses as I have a codrive in BS and STX, but turns out it might be competitive so why not try. It's been a longtime since I posted here but I still recognize some names and plan to run it at Nats. Hasty prep and limited events means we'll learn more at the TNT at Nats than before.

Has anyone done the full measurements on the sway bars on 718 PASM Sport bars? I did a quick measurement without taking a wheel off and it seems to be 28mm hollow with 4mm wall thickness (991 343 705 16). Trying to spec it versus the 991GT3 sway bar which I'm finding is 31mm hollow with 7mm wall thickness. If they follow similar dimensions that's around 100lbs of wheel rate increase even at the softest hole on the GT3 bar and not as appealing as previous Caymans with GT3 bar options where they tended to overlap.

I didn't. The GTS doesn't have any adjustments on the factory sway bars and I didn't feel the need to upgrade the front or rear bars, because the overall balance (after the proper alignment) felt great.I was planning to try different settings on the DSC controller, but just never had the free time or expertise needed to do it.
The 981GT4 may be an entirely different story and the DSC may have a different out of the box tune than on the 718. I only know from my own experience. For me, the car felt unpredictable which didn't inspire confidence, and predictability is essential to get the confidence to drive at the limit and place the car where you intend it to be.

EDIT -- Just jumped into the SS game. Bought a 2018 CTS yesterday. Video will follow/

Had my first event in the GTS today. Took an educated guess on the alignment based on previous Porsche experience and it paid off. Car was very good with minor push at the limit which made it easy to drive. I can see where using a DSCsport to customize the shocks a bit would help especially on low speed corner's entry. Very fun car to drive and probably more competitive in SS than I would have guessed.

Current status is custom CCW wheels (19x8.5"F/19x10.5") with correct offsets are arriving Monday, the tires are ready to mount, I've dialed in max camber front and rear, and planned on an alignment this last Friday but the shop balked out of concerns for the wheels being scratched. I'm looking at getting the DSC Controller for the 718 GTS.

I'm definitely doing the DSC Sport. I got just a bit more camber than you but since home gauges who knows how accurate. With wheel studs installed I can play with the offset a little in the front as I get rub at full lock.

This is somewhat off topic, but I've noticed that PCA autocross events don't seem to have the conventional elements of an SCCA format (slalom, wallom, eyebrows, Chicago boxes, etc.) and are more like excessively cone lined go kart tracks. Am I missing it or this their gig as I am new to Porsche? Edit -- admittedly Tom's video had some of the traditional elements but most of the videos I've seen.....no so much.

What size tires are you guys running on the 19’s ?
RE-71’s ?
I am picking up a Cayman T with a PDK in two weeks, probably a bit more competitive in AS than my base 718 manual with no options.
Do your wheels have center caps for street driving ? I think I would need the caps because I’m likely driving to events rather than towing.
RE-71’s ?

Not running 19s since no yokos in that diameter that work. So 255/285 35/20 on the optional 8.5/10.5 widths. Taller than ideal but the PDK's gearing makes the 70mph in 2nd quite good and enough grunt to dig. However on your manual that would be probably too tall and laggy on the 2.0. I'd probably try a 255/275 35/19 setup on a T. Please share what you do and how it works. I don't have enough events to kill my yokos this year nor justify testing anything else. I'll be running the PS4S at Time Trials Nationals as the only Porsche in Sport 1 once Danny switches to his NC miata.

i wonder if the SPASM suspension on the T is high enough for the 20” yokos to fit without damaging the car.
While my base car is a manual, my incoming T is a PDK.

My car is coming with 8x20 front and 10x20 rear, BUT a number of months ago I picked up a set of Carrera Sport Classics that are an option for ALL 718’s and those are 8.5” front and 10.5” rear. Right now I have a set of Re-71 245 front 295 rear. Would also like to try 255 and 285 Yoko, but they are 27.9” front 28” rear, vs 26.8 and 27.2 fro the Re71r.
