I had both 997TT and now 991 TTS, both in Carrara white. Just as a footnote, 991TTS is my eleventh 911 so I claim a modest experience and a real passion), and I'm afraid I beg to differ, guys.
991TTS is better in absolutely every way. Better looking? Well, this is subjective, but this one certainly turns heads. Don't get me wrong, I loved the 997TT! Loved it! But the 991 is a quantum leap forward.
I was on track three weeks ago... just a fun track day... and only the 991 GT3RS kept up. GT3s of all generations and even a friend's 997GT2 (not the RS) could not. And although I share a birthday with Walter Rorhl, I do not share in his talent.
So, I do vote for the 991TTS, hands down.

Jean Louis, nobody is arguing the 991 is the better car !
It's also faster and much better than a 964 3.6 turbo, 993 turbo, etc.
But that's not the point !
The 997 design is, too many, just a perfect execution of what a 911 ought to be. It reached its zenith design wise. It's pure.
The 991 has too much going on. It's a 'busy' design.
But as a car it's great, no doubt.

I love the fact the 997.2 TurboS has a ton of the benefits of the 991 TS but in the 997 package. It's a fantastic car.

Reading this thread reminds me of all of my troubles, getting customers to accept a newer and better revision of something, after they've grown comfortable with an older version.
The view of the public at large can often be a bit behind of where things are headed.
That said, I do feel like Porsche really hit some magic balance of big, but not too big, modern, but with enough of the look we remember from the 70s (when, face it, many of the current owners, us, were kids) with the 997.

Fantastic thread. Part of the education process is to read and analyze all points of view. Bonus with some awesome pics. As a lurker, I aim at one point to step up from my 997.2 C2S to a TT. Thinking that the 997.2 6MT is preferred. Never know. Dream car added.

991's are nice. I like the 991.2's a little better. It's a better car hands down-obviously.
but............
As others have mentioned, the interior console leaves a lot to be desired as does the vehicle profile. I also want 3 pedals under the dash. On that note, I'll just leave this here:

The wheels are a little big for my liking but i like the design and the color, with pccb, and the lower painted sills is Awesome. Well done sir.

To me, the 996 and 997's were "made" by their Turbo bodies (and 997, GTS package). Those bodies imo really benefitted by the scoops and aggression, and look perfectly harmonious and packaged in Turbo form.
While the 991 Turbo is a stunner, I too always felt something didn't sit quite right with it on a relativity (to its own 911 brethren) basis. Something about how the scoops interact with the flatter and sleeker body, just doesn't make it pop and give it the same aggression relative to the Carreras (it seems sort of forced and awkward.... again, relatively speaking). It's also largely because even in standard form, the 991 looks a lot more aggressive and "fast" than a 997.
To me, the 991 looks best in Carrera and GT3 form, as pure, non-cluttered styling allows the timelessly clean and monolithic body to truly shine. And the 996 and 997; by far in Turbo form do they really look their utmost complete.

Something about the 991's more raked, low-slung and "fast" lines, plus longer wheelbase, wider front, lower roofline make it seem a bit less "911" to me and more "Aston/Jag/Maserati/[other nice sports car]." Just slightly less distinct than previous generations.

I owned both a 991.1 GTS and 991.1 TTS. In Turbo and GT3/RS trims, I prefer the looks of the 997 but in all other Carrera/GTS trims, I prefer the 991 design. Overall, they are all beautiful though. When it comes to looking dated, the wheels can play a big factor. It's funny how even 19s suddenly seem relatively small these days.
