Default Do you have to use the rear brake backing plate?

Just took my car in due to a "rattle". They discovered the rear pads were shaking (could be moved up and down). These are pagid pads. The same ones I've been using for the last 3 years on the track. Have never had a problem. The guy at the dealer service said that the reason is because the backing plates have been removed (which I did 3 years ago yet never had a problem). This really doesn't make sense to me. Are the backing plates (dampeners) really necessary to hold the pads in place?

I don't use them, due to using Pagids and not being able to fit them in as the pads were too thick when new. I don't have any issues with rattles.

Yea, that was the reason I took them off. See the vid, are they supposed to move like that?

That looks rather strange. Do both sides have the issue? Could be uneven wear on the pad.

I picked up my car. Both sides do that. I actually think it is normal though. I honestly don't think that's where the rattle is coming from.

Do you still have your pad springs in?

Quite, they can't be!

The dampers are just that - vibration dampers, not anti-rattle clips/springs.

Wonder if you have the right pads? GT3 ones are similar but apparently slightly smaller but thicker - taking Textar as an example.

(Thicker - might explain why some can't re-use the dampers!)
