Repossessed car
I've been looking at a TT for a few weeks now. It's at a dealer and overpriced (IMO). It's an uncommon color, which is the attraction.
I was on one of the many interweb listing sites and it had the Carfax, which was interesting...
Car was in the NW for a bit, then it went to Canada and from there to Texas, so it's been around.
Turns out it was then repo'd in Atlanta and right after was shoved through an auction.
Wondered if anyone else thought this would hit resale, or if I'm being too picky.
Yeah yeah ppi I know; but for some reason I'm finding it off putting.

For what it's worth-my feeling about repo'd cars is this--- If they didn't have the money for payments do you think they had the money for proper maintenance? They probably just drove the Hell out of it until it was picked up. If it were me I would pass. In general a lot (not all) of people don't take care of their leased vehicles because they get a new one every 2 years. I had a gal who worked for me who leased a new Toyota. The dealer kept calling because she never made it in for her free oil changes and maintenance.
I think you may take a mild hit on resale. I would approach it along the lines of a foreclosed home. Having that history on record may cause some to think twice before purchasing. Not having a spotless Carfax seems to drive some folks nuts, even though Carfax and the like should be taken with a grain of salt. I wouldn't say it is as bad as a salvage/rebuilt title or a vehicle involved in an accident. der Geist also raised some great points regarding maintenance.

If the car in question was just sold and then repo'd after a short period of time that might not be that big of a stigma on the car.
But if the car spent months and months with the owner before being repo'd that's different.
I think it telling the car was put into auction right after being repo'd.
Regardless though I think "repo" on the CarFax is going to be off putting to any prospective buyer, which is to be expected.
There are a number of vehicles available to chose from and repo is not on anyone's list of what he is looking for in a new (used) car.
If resale is important to you, you have to buy the car discounted because of the repo. You shouldn't pay top dollar for the car and then expect another buyer to do the same when you go to sell the car.
If you get the car with a suitable discount -- assuming the car is worth owning even if one can get past the repo thing -- then this makes it easier for you to recoup more of what you paid for the car when you go to sell.
It's not a smoking deal. It's a steaming one...
The dealer is asking a premium price.
I think I'll pass. The paucity of cars in this color combo was the main attraction, but I don't want one badly enough to overpay for something that I may struggle to sell. I have a TDI already filling that role so I'm not looking for another.

Is black on black an uncommon color combo? I thought that this was an extremely common color combo?
I think you made a good decision passing on this one. It just didn't sit right with you in your gut. That says it all.

It's olive green metallic on black or space gray. It looks like a nice car to me.
Looks like the guys financing didn't go thru or something. I'd use it as a bargaining chip, 69-70k would be a smoking deal.

Oh my, I didn't read the link that well. Now I see that it's not black, only looks like black under those lights. Olive? Gorgeous!!!
Don't know about pricing, agree with comments on whether somebody who knew they couldn't make the monthly payments would take good care of the vehicle plus lots of owners in various places but it is available with CPO (and thus some level of detailed inspection at the dealership) that might take some of the risk out of buying it.
