Civil war on the 991 forum
Wow, I thought the 991 forum was bad when it was introduced and people were arguing 997 vs 991 in 2012.
Now it's all NA vs turbo. So are they going to move the 991.2 to the turbo section, lol?

Of course not! According to the Porsche marketing department, the turbocharged 991.2 Carrera and Carrera S aren't turbo cars. Only the turbo cars are turbos, even though the non-turbo cars have turbos.

Those clowns, despite what they might claim, likely last drove a turbo sports car in the 80s and think that everything is still like a 930.
Hell our cars off boost probably make similar power to a standard 997 carrera.
Outdated thinking combined with justification bias leads to stupid comments.

That's why I love my 997TT, I have zero desire to get another Porsche. Only thing that would interest me to add a singer like project 964, but that's another story.

Maybe we will all look back on 2014 and say, "2014... When men were men and Turbos were turbos."

It's an interesting predicament for the marketing group. Their flagship brand is associated with a technology that is now going to be used in the vast majority of their cars. They have to find ways to maintain the exclusivity associated with the "turbo" brand, and that goes beyond nomenclature. It will be interesting to see how they manage that feat in the coming years.
Personally, I have no issue at all with the decision to use turbocharging across the product line. More efficient engines that produce more power are a good thing in my mind. My 997 TT is currently at the dealership for service. My loaner car is a 2015 Cayenne S with a turbocharged engine. It doesn't have any turbo badging and it doesn't drive like a turbo. There is virtually no turbo lag and if I didn't know that it was a turbo, then I would not figure it out by driving it. Aside from the lack of sound, it's a very nice application of the technology.

Most 997 owners/buyers love smaller sports cars and would be happy in a 993/964/930. I don't get the same feeling from 991 owners I meet. I guess that's progress for some, but for me, the bloat is undesirable. That makes the GT4 a compelling argument, or god forbid, a Turbo level Cayman offering (I prefer two seaters for sports cars and not the 2+2).
991 Turbo is a great car unto itself but the total package seems to be lacking compared to the 997 and older cars, and for me, it's because of the size and tall center console.

A post on the 991 GT3 forum... Pretty nice comparison to the 997 GT3, makes me think more favorably of the 991. Now if I could only afford one

I drove a 991 GT3 on the race track in an exotic car driving experience. It was fantastic. I wish I had one! My lap times were faster than the other car that I drove (Ferrari F430 Scuderia) and the GT3 just felt "right" on the track. It's an awesome car.

997 is already a compromised car- compromised for daily use by making it bigger than necessary. 991 has jumped to grand touring from sports car class. People who buy these cars are not typical 911 buyers- those who get in a 991 are usually shocked at how large the car is now. The intimacy is lacking.

long nose owners say the same about the short noses
g series owners say the same about the 964
964 say the same about the 993
993 about the 996
996 about the 997.
literally rinse and repeat every single time there is a new car. Its amazing how the car you happen to own just happens to be the last of the "real 911s"
Kinda like the old phrase, Anyone going slower than me is a sissy and everyone going faster than me is a maniac.

I couldn't agree more.
The 991.1 owners are now proclaiming their cars to be the last real 911. The 991.2 owners will do the same thing when the 992 is launched.
The cycle continues....
