It is Porsche's factory position. I'm surprised some of you guys don't know this. You are meant to be Porsche enthusiasts! The tip at the base of the crest should line up exactly with the valve! When you are next at a dealership check all the new cars and you will see it for yourself. Sure it may not be important to some, but to those who know, would want the factory look retained rather than advertise there has been wheel/tire problems at one point.

I didn't know this either and I've been around Porsches for 25 years. (Or I knew but later forgot, since I'm old enough to have been around Porsches for 25 years.)

I'll spin em around next time I have the wheels off. Assuming it can't be done with wheels on. (???)

Just pull the caps out. Can be done with the wheel on. Be careful not to bend the plastic/face by trying to leverage them out, better to use a small hook type tool with a right angle bend so there is no pressure on the holes in the cap.

I have no idea how the centre cap placement could be an indicator of any prior issues?

Don't worry we all live and learn. Get 2 stiff pieces of wire, like say two extra large paper clips and bend a right angle on each, insert into the two holes and gently remove.

Not meaning serious issues, just that it indicates who ever has been messing around with the wheels is definitely no Porsche person. Few tire techs know but most don't so more often than not you have to educate them at the time. You can guarantee if the dealer sent the wheels out for tire change they would make an absolute point of correcting the position. It's **** but hey that's Porsche for you....and Porschphiles are **** with their cars!

FWIW mine were put/left this way by a well-regarded Porsche wheel/tire shop that's been around a LONG time...and prior to that the car had only been dealer-serviced. No biggie, just kinda interesting.

Doesn't say much for them as an outfit then. Having no clue or attention to detail means they are just arms and legs. Plus dealers generally don't pick up after monkeys unless they sent them out or it's one of their own cars. Sometimes as the owner you just got to speak up..

Well what a relief, all mine align correctly
I can sleep well tonight knowing my crests haven't been messed with

Does anyone have a picture of the coloured crests on chrom background, to match the turbo wheels ?
I've seen these advertised, so assume they must have been a factory option. Not sure what they would look like on a grey car though.

So back on topic - thanks for those that have posted pics of their painted wheels. My second set will be getting stripped and repainted at some point, to play host to some stickier tyres for the track.

NT01's may be of interest to you now that they are available in a stock setup

Thanks for the heads up. I expect that Z221/R888/NT01's will be beyond my talent level at the moment. I'm still very much in the learning phase, and the forgiving Michelin Pilot SS will be fine for the rest of the year. I'll graduate to a set of Z222 for summer and then look to options for more focused tyres.

Here you go. Very subtle difference.

Peculiar update to the semi-OT hubcap orientation thing: At least one of mine moves (rotates) on its own. One day it's pointed at the stem, another day not, and I have never touched them. From the above I'm assuming they are not supposed to?

Back on-topic: I'm thinking I still do actually like my OE wheels. I'm glad to not have a strong urge to go aftermarket or modded. With regard to wheels, at least.

Since posting this I've gone the opposite route. Have sold my second set of OEM rims with the intent of buying some AM wheels at some point (currently not the most appealing proposition due to the NZ$ falling significantly).

But do agree that OEM become more appealing over time. I'm happy with my blemish free standard turbo wheels for now.
