Sport design steering wheel
Hello all, I already searched this with no luck. Can a "standard" (no buttons or controls) steering wheel be replaced on a 997.2 to the aluminum Sport design wheel? The car is specifically a 2011
This is a manual trans car. I have searched, but can't find the answer to this. My guess is the steering shaft spline and length would be the limiting factor. I realize the air bag would too need to be changed.
Thank you for your input

I'm not positive but believe the splines and trim on the car are all the same; in fact people have swapped .2 steering wheels to .1 and for sure have swapped different .1 and .2 wheels that were available for their model/year. (I just swapped my standard .1 MF wheel for a .1 XPA sport wheel for instance.)
I suggest contacting Suncoast with your question and they also sell the steering wheels/parts if you need a supplier (no affiliation.)

I like the interior of my 997 SO much better than my 996, except the steering wheel. I have the MF, but will look to replace it or change it at some point in my ownership too.

I personally love the new sports design steering wheel. Not a huge fan of the 997.1 wheel. Not sure it looks better thicker or just best to leave it be. IMO it looks a little odd with those thick indents but the flat bottom is a nice touch.

the thick grips are optional, but IMO the standard 997.1 wheel is too thin. Good Luck

as tom said yes. But IMO go after market and get a much nicer wheel than anything porsche offers. I went with DCT Motorsports. They take an OEM wheel and redo it in anyway you want. You keep full OEM functionality and Airbag so it's 100% plug and play Porsche with no worries. All you have to do is send them your core in exchange and it's much cheaper than getting an OEM sports wheel

The XPA option thicker sport wheel for the 997.1 is very nice. I like it better than my 996 wheel, and I had the upgraded wheel in the 996.

Thanks for the reply. It already has a round air bag, but it looks like it may be slightly different than the sport design. Thanks for all the great suggestions, but I really have my heart set on the sport design. It somehow reminds me of the old Mopar Tuff wheel, of which I have a collection ( I have no more mopars, but I have a collection of Tuff wheels if I ever get one again!!
Thanks all!!
Thanks all!!

Correct. I was pretty lucky in buying a never-installed XPA wheel from a private-party for less than half of typical retail price. The savings there offset the airbag cost, but it was still a spendy mod. However it truly made the car more enjoyable.
