Default Exhaust tips really do make a difference!

I'll be the first to admit I'm as surprised as anybody at my findings. I took my fabspeed x-pipe exhaust off to add muffler bypass pipes for a day of racing. My fabspeed exhaust tips wouldn't fit the bypass pipes, so I had to use the OEM tips. Unfortunately I broke a bolt head off while installing so had to leave the tips off for the race day. All the way from Dayton to Columbus and back I had to wear earplugs because the exhaust was so loud, annoying, and just droned in my ears. The next day after drilling the bolt out of my OEM tips I installed them so I could just leave them on the bypass pipes for future use and not have to worry about installing tips and pipes. WOW what a difference the tips made in nuisance noise reduction. I have a db meter I use for work and measured the difference. The tips made a difference of -15 db's! The biggest surprise was the drone, although it was still present, it was MUCH more tolerable. I'm really surprised the OEM tips made that big a difference. I wish I could compare the fabspeed tips to the OEM tips, but the pipes are different sizes. Eventually when I put the x-pipe back on I'll take some readings just for comparison although it won't be quite apples to apples.

Yes, tips can/will make a big difference in sound. Many of our systems have different tips for various sound levels. We test various tips along with other design criteria to develop desired sound, etc., especially on our 996TT/997TT turbo systems...

I have the same wheels as you but your car looks so much sleeker due to the lower ride height. How much has it been lowered??

The exhaust outlet location makes a BIG difference on drone. By not having the tips, your exhaust was exiting under the car (even if only by a couple of inches) causing a lot of reverberation (even if the dB didn't change, you would still get this reverb) which causes drone. By moving the exhaust exit out past the car you are giving it a lot of free space for the vibrations and sound waves to disperse into the air instead of directly into the chassis of the car.

I had B&B tips (never liked them) on my 964 Turbo and I replaced them with after market polished tips with rolled edges.

The rear end looks great but the car doesn't burble as loud as it did with B&B

I might just go back to a newer version of B&B tips as I really miss the decelerating burble
