There ALWAYS needs to be somebody in front of you for a detector to do it's job, otherwise what happened to you will happen every time.....

Have a nicely concealed install 9500ci.

When you hear the laser alert go off, and the LEO looks at his gun to check if he forgot to turn it on, you know it's working.

My custom display install is identical to this, and there is not one other detector giblet you could see from looking into the car.

So versus the V1, 9500ci is

* less range but less or no false alerts; I had so many falses with a friends V1 on a 2500 mile road trip that I quit listening to it

* no arrows, but GPS data bases of speed traps, cameras etc updated weekly

* not even a suction cup trace on the windshield, much less a dangling wire

* more money, but the laser alert has paid for it many times over in 50K miles.

^^^ wow nice unit we got I should go home and read the manual.
Mine looks exactly the same way only mine is mounted between sterring wheel and the dash.
Whats cool about it is that it also tells u if signal comes from the back or front

Laser signal yes with the audio alert, but not radar as I recall. But the radar audio or display alert does say what band.

Where the LEO can see it without trying hard.

It's not that detectors are illegal except in VA and maybe a couple more. It's more about what it says about your intent wrt to speed.

Two small blue lights on either side of the instrument binnacle designate a front or rear signal, and it can be muted so you rely on just the lights. Does anyone have any persecutive on this units overall performance under real world conditions? Thanks for any insights. Bryan
I have a k40 and I am very pleased with it, plenty of range and performance for my style of driving. Been using it since 2009, best thing about it is the stealthy install, love it. Do watch the batteries in the fob, the system will not arm if it's inactive. I got it after my V1 was stolen in a smash and grab right in the doctors parking lot at 0900 on a Tuesday, never again would I get another dash unit.
Well of course I needed a detector for my 930, and I did not want to do a concealed install, so a bought a V1 just for that car. It works great like they always do, great range, but tons of false alarms.

That's why I'm adding the FVD tune to my TT. You just can't be too safe when merging on to the highway.

I see your point. I might have to look into relocating it

Anyone have a completely stealth install on one of these? I live in VA... Going over 80mph here is reckless driving even if you're on a 70mph highway. My town is completely cop infested. VA is no fun...

Yea it's bad... and yet somehow VW has their American headquarters here. Carmax has their headquarters in Richmond too. Would expect the place to at least be marginally driver friendly. Heck one of the guys that started Carmax has a Carrera GT, my younger brother did some work at his house once down in Richmond ... anyways sorry for getting off topic

Hey, states set up as big speed traps are a legitimate topic for a detector discussion. I just wish someone could tell me whether the K40 Calibre that came in my TT is worth a sh*t or not...
