Default Would you buy a car from NYC?

Hey Gang,
I'm in the market for a new Daily Driver (non p-car) and I have located a strong candidate in NYC...Queens, actually. I don't mean this as bad as it sounds, but my perception from afar is that NYC is rough on a car. Short drives, bad roads, door dings, etc. The car is a 2012 and has 11k miles on it, which seems low... but 11k in all city driving maybe isn't?

Am I being a hasty generalist? I've been to NYC probably 50 times in my life and my experience is with cabs, so that's not fair. Anybody got any feedback? Any anybody near Queens that could swing by a dealership would also be gratefully appreciated!

Thanks for any input,

There are good people and good cars and bad people and bad cars everywhere...I know a lot of great great car nut friends from the "city".
I drive my cars in Chicago and they are as mint as any car. I always valet, pay more, corner park. etc...

You know the routine. Don't fall in love and have the car properly inspected, etc.
Large cities with greater population usually provide more choices on cars.

I got my car from a guy in the White Plains area, during the test drive I was thinking "what a hard life cars must live on these roads, especially in winter"

Good advice, for sure. This car is certified through a dealer, so that helps quite a bit...

You're absolutely right. But as I drive around Cincinnati, I think our roads suck too I just haven't been to NYC in a while to remember if theirs are worse than ours.

probably 11k miles of short trips or lots of highway stop and go traffic but... its 11k miles, not 75k... I live in NYC and avoid local Pcars... they become rattle boxes too quickly but non Pcars... that depends on what car it is..

interesting topic...........have not been to NYC in years, but I don't recall the roads being super nice.......then again......what do I know?

I'd assume some folks would be driving carefully........as some are not.........hard to say

It's Koeppel VW. Woodside, I believe? I'm looking at GTI's to get a cheaper commuter car. I'm finding that at this point in my life, I want to get something that's a "beater" and use my Porsche for the weekends and to enjoy life.

I live in Manhattan and bought my 997TT from Long Island City (Queens). It looked better than average as a few people here can attest

YMMV.

disagree. Your low hanging fender liners have scraped. I'll offer you $30k for the car and not a dollar more.

1k NYC miles= 7k suburban miles. Wheels are always scratched. Bumpers are always dinged. Paint is swirled (nowhere to hand wash a car). Etc etc

75k miles here. 4 sets of wheels, none of them are scratched. car is parked outdoors 24/7 in a driveway. bumpers arent dinged (front of car is clear bra'd)... hand washed and waxed every weekend.
