997.1, trunk open & dead battery after 10 days away?
Spent 10 days away and found the front trunk open and the battery all but dead with just enough to turn on a few lights and release the key, but no chance of turning over. From what I've read a CTEK is the way to go for extended periods of absence, but 10 days seems a little short (battery was new 3 months ago). And the trunk lock being released makes it all the more strange. It was definitely closed when I left, and I had the key with me. Anyone had a similar experience?

Now you need to make sure that your battery gets back to 100% FULL charge...ie) for me several days on the charger...just driving it around does not get you to full Charge (100% SOC).
10 days is kind of short, but it all depends on the starting point of the battery charge, the kind/quality of battery, ..., ambient temperature, and if you have any aftermarket stuff drawing current?
I am always on the CTEK if more than 3 days away...GL.

Yes I am. Well used to be, to be honest I haven't ridden a skateboard a lot in the last few years...

Had a CTEK on order but arrived the day that I flew out. Is sitting in the office so will hook it up tomorrow and see where we get to.
Thanks for the advice, appreciate it.

Trunk open so trunk light was on draining the battery?
I'm not sure why but it seems more than a few times I've found my trunk open when I thought it should be closed.

On the phantom trunk latch, is definitely not the first time for me; it has happened at least once before.

CTEK hooked up to the car proved fruitless; charger powered on but refused to start a charge cycle. Suspect something in the car is consuming power and charger is detecting the draw. Why this is happening I don't know.
Removed battery and hooked up directly, seems to be charging, although suspicious that it jumped to the 4th stage quite quickly and then back to the third. Will see how far it's got in the morning.

When it is time to replace, you may want to consider a modern gel-cell or an AGM where you get fantastic cold cranking (CCA) performance and deep cycle in the event of power down.
I have two 997s right now and I tend to not drive them for months at a time! I always lock the cars and have both of them on CTEK chargers hooked directly at the battery instead of trough the cigarette lighter or elsewhere. I wonder if you have an ECU that does not go to "sleep" mode and continues to stay powered on?

Thanks for the advice. Are you running AGM or Gel in yours?
Read this today, learnt a bit. May be helpful to others in the same situation: http://www.batterystuff.com/kb/artic...ry-basics.html

I went with AGM and switching car by car...(the factory lead acid battery in both 997's had actually leaked damaging the battery tray...I think that I posted pix and part numbers here a while back)
