3.6 vs 3.8?

I buy a new Porsche about every 10 years. I say "about" because I try to time it for a revolutionary, not evolutionary model change.
Few Porsches are "collectible" because they come in volumes. This one of 10 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 N.A.R.T. Spider is:
Even my dearly departed 993S was not a collectible, which is why I drove it 161K miles before selling it. My TT is a Tip because I have 2 artificial hips. I could have struggled with a 6MT for the sake of resale value, but no point. I would have preferred a 2009 for known reasons, but decision was driven by the immediate need for an auto trans.
Much as I understand the Mezger/9A1 transition, the 991 does not appeal to me anyway - yet. We'll see what they have in about 5 years.

Three Wheelin'
Same car with 1/3 the mileage today is very very collectible.
Some of these 993S cars are selling for big money already. When I sold my 993S it was gone within 2 weeks. Made a huge profit !
And do you know the volume of 997/1 turbo manual ? It is surprisingly low.
A manual '09 is rare already today, imagine in 10 years.
Best sales year was '07 but when the crisis hit in '08 turbo sales dropped dramatically.
Any 911, 964 and 993 is a collectible today provided it is a 'clean' example.
The 996 GT3 and GT3 RS are collectible. And all 997 GT's will become very collectible. And for sure the turbo.
I can talk about this all day as it is a passion of mine. But I have said enough to the point it is becoming boring. I'll stop here.

You can't see it, that's fine. Doesn't mean it isn't there though
But please, for the love of all things good, leave those stupid grilles out of it.
The reply I got from you was fine to me. It was brought with humor, it made people even laugh.
I simply can't understand what my grilles have to do with this.

If I could fast forward another 25 years on this board there could be a bunch of Rennlisters arguing about which way is the best way to improve the sound of the electric hum their motors make. Those poor buggers will never get to smell the fresh waft of startup smoke with our cars

I believe you are correct, or at least closer than my memory. here is the official porsche press release noting 2,773 Turbo Coupe's sold in NA in 2007
http://press.porsche.com/news/release.php?id=404
and this press release from 2007 noting expected global turbo sales of 6000
http://www.porsche.com/international...&id=2007-01-26
so probably ~5K total in NA and 10k-15k global for 997.1 turbo sales. seems about the right ballpark

Lets just say that some members here are always right no matter what the topic. And they will write novels and take cheap shots to prove their point. It is quite tiresome.

I think I remember very disappointing 08 sales as well, plus the economy.
So that leaves about 2000 6mt cars in nA?
Re the tts, I had one for 8 mos or so, couldn't wait to get rid of it to get another .1. That's just me though...

TTSurgeon....You are making me want to sell my poor 2007 TT (TIP) to get a M/T before it is too late!
...well...I don't use this TT for DD anymore, so I really don't need a TIP anymore! But how the heck am I ever going to find another dark blue metallic with the full brown natural leather including every leather option checked including headliner!!

I would agree with what Terry Adams has said 100%. A collectible car usually comes from a model that had very low production numbers of 200 or less, along with preferably having its own number too. As some have pointed out, with over 6000 units sold Globally (at least) it is highly unlikely that the 997tt is going to become a collectible any time soon least of all go up in value.
Bottom line: It's a great car and as an owner of a 6MT .1tt I have enjoyed it every time I drive it, but to say it's a better car than a .2tt 3.8 I would be totally kidding myself. The 3.8 platform drives and performs better in every way. So if you dont have one and money is not an obstacle then it would be .2tt every day of the week.
I think current owners of the .1tt should just enjoy the car for what it is and be happy with that, but I personally wouldn't get too caught up in the minority hype that it's going to be a collectible at any point in our life times.
