3.6 vs 3.8?

PJ,
You said it man. I experienced the same thing the other day. I was given a new Boxter as a loaner for the day. While driving it, I enjoyed the bright nav screen with up-to-date maps, traffic info, etc. I played with the PDK. I'm a fan of the mid-engine design of the Boxter and Cayman in general. The new versions of each are the best yet in terms of road manners and handling, IMHO.
So, I spend the day in a brand new Boxter. I also looked at all the new 991s on the lot--sat in them, talked to the staff. After I got the Boxter home, I stood and admired the new design. Nice car.
When I returned to pick up my '07 the next day, there was a 991 in front of my car and a 996 behind it. Neither were Turbos, but if I'd had to choose the best looking one, it would've been mine, hands down, no contest. When I opened the door, as always, that Porsche rich leather smell welcomed me back. (The Boxter didn't have it, which is understandable at that price point.) I looked down at the dated PCM, and the dated console design, and the leather in every direction. I felt the comfort of the perfectly supportive seat. I grabbed the stick, had to use both feet, and scooted out of there with a big grin on my face.
You often read advice to the effect that newer is better. For example, you might hear someone say, I'd take my $70,000 and build a loaded Cayman S in lieu of a 7-year-old Turbo with 25k miles. It is a common sentiment with all kinds of things. But, driving home Saturday afternoon in my newly-serviced TT, there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that nothing any car maker has to offer would make me trade my 997.1 TT. If someone wants to give me a Gallardo, then I'll take it. But, I ain't trading my '07 TT for anything--no hyperbole here.
There is not another car out there that has the combination of: timeless, sexy but powerful looks; rock solid reliability; and supercar abilities. I've had numerous occasions--often at the gas station--where someone strikes up a conversation and tells me "that's my dream car." I lose sight of it sometimes, but in all honesty, it's mine too.

You can have the PCM3 in your car if you so desire. It's work and money but can be done. I have all the components to do the conversion and I might do it over winter. Not sure yet as I would only do it for looks, am happy about how it functions.
For the rest I have to agree, I am a car nut through and through. Up until now I bought a new fun car every year, two years tops. My first 997 Turbo I bought new in 2007 and sold in 2008. But after a year or so my desire for the 997 turbo was so high I decided I wanted an other.
And I have to agree, I can't think of any other car I'd rather have.

And, I believe you when you say you can't think of another car you'd rather have. It sounds like hyperbole, but I feel the same way. How fortunate are we!
Wow! Really?!?

I have had two Porsches before my 997TT. I can say with full confidence and honesty that I have not lost money on any of them. I made money on my 1997 Carrera S. I made a huge significant amount of money on my 1993 RS America with 18k miles. I know if I ever sell my 997TT, which I will not, I will make money. Porsche has never let me down!

Agreed 100% on the style, the MT, the noise of the Mezger, the rich smell of the leather interior. It's a fantastic car. Sometimes I just make an excuse to 'go to my car' and open the door to breath in the intoxicating smell. Exceptional. Would I sell it? I don't know but it would have to be something better in all of the above before I would. I like mnay are not smitten with the 991. I find it too fat, too big, a complex interior etc... A 997 I think as a modern car with style elements dating back to earlier times. The best of both worlds. am I worried about my 'investment'? Not at all. I can see putting 100k totally enjoyable miles on him (yes - he is a boy, with a name etc...).

I'd also be interested in the PCM 3 upgrade, but in reality, I have iPod and BT working great now, other than upgraded maps it's all I really need.
Could you list what one might need?

PCM3 997.642.972.00
AIRCO UNIT 997.653.201.04 (without heated seats)
PSAM/SPORT/PSM CONTROL UNIT 997.613.547.00 (this needs an electronic specialist as the connections are different from the old unit, has to be opened and rerouted)
Storage compartment 997.553.143.02
BOSE amp 997.645.444.04
GATEWAY 997.610.107.04 (should also work with original unit)
QUADLOCK CONNECTOR (f.ex. Audi type)
Some patience, some electrical schemes, some how to's and lastly an activation code. The last part is the hardest.
I have everything except the activation code. But a Russian member on 6 speed can get around that for a fee.
In Greece several have done the install and have been very happy with it.

Denis,
Thanks for the info.
Is the electronic specialist needed for reading an electrical diagram and soldering? Is the electrical diagram available?
Let's see, heated seats or 3.0 PCM? Hmmmm...
