Default New Member Needs Advice on Turbo Purchase

I'm a long time car enthusiast but I have never really ventured into the Porsche crowd as I have always been a bit more interested in american muscle cars (I have a 97 Viper GTS currently). I bought my wife an M3 convertible a couple of years ago and one of my partners just got a great deal on a 2013 911 Turbo. Well, long story short I took his car for a spin and absolutely fell in love with this little rocket ship and I've really come to appreciate the quality of German cars with the wife's M3. After doing a bit of research online I feel like a turbo coupe would be the perfect daily driver for me but I need a bit of advice as the market seems to be a bit bare and the option lists seem to be endless. My questions are as follows:

1. What are the major differences from 2010 to 2013 for the 997s and are there any major issues with a particular model year (should I consider a 2009)? I am having trouble finding anything out about the 2013 997 Turbos because everything in google only brings up 991 information when I search using a 2013 modifier.

2. Are there any significant advantages of the Turbo S over a Turbo that is similarly optioned? It looks to me as if the S is the way to go as it comes standard with all the goodies and all of the plain Turbos on the market seem to be missing something.

3. I'm not much for extended warranties but since this will be a daily driver I'm leaning towards a CPO car, any thoughts on this? How much of a premium does a CPO usually add?

4. Tell me about DME reports, PPIs, coolant hose failures and center lock failures. Are there any other problems I should look out for?

5. What are the must have options? Are the tech features the same over the past few years? I am a gadget (Apple) freak and love all the techno stuff in newer cars but they never seem to live up to the hype. Do the ventilated seats work? The ones on my Audi Q7 suck. Is voice command useable? How well do they synch with iPhones? Can I bluetooth stream music and Pandora? Does the park assist work on the front or only the rear?

6. Should I wait until the 991s are here in hopes of a larger selection and better pricing on a '12 or '13 or go ahead and jump on a '10 or '11? Should I even consider a '09?

Thanks,

Austin

...The 991TT with a few options gets to around $155K'sh pretty quick...IMO: Do a Euro Delivery on a new 991TT and go for a fun trip with your wife! You will not regret it.

07 - 09 = the last of the GT1 race derived Mezger engines. 10 - 13 = the new DFI engines and PDK trans. Many of us here in this forum prefer the 07 - 09 for its character, especially with a manual trans and it's ease of engine mods. As for the TT - S? Sure, why not. It's more power but do you really need it? I am finding my stock 480hp plenty of power especially for the kind of driving I do - daily driver and weekends up in the twisities. Im looking at an exhaust mod for more noise and less turbo lag. So one can go over kill on these cars and IMO with the 'S'. Super fun cars. Nothing else like them. Good luck with you hunt!

im not a big fan of the turbo S honestly

the regular turbo with PDK makes the same boost / power with the sport button on and is significantly less expensive. unless you want options like the centerlock wheels etc, not sure why you wouldn't just get the turbo if it is optioned well.

I also would rather a 991 turbo over a 997 turbo s. the new cars interior is WAY better than the 997 IMO.

I've narrowed the year down to '11 or '12 vs a '13 Turbo S. From what I found on the forums the '11 and '12 are identical but I can't for the life of me find any information on the '13. Everything online in regards to any '13 911 is based on the 991 for some reason, I can't find useful base turbo or turbo s info. Are there any difference to the '13 at all that anybody can shed some light on when compare to the '11/'12?

I cannot imagine that Porsche would be spending engineering/tooling/manufacturing money and making any changes to the MY13 997TT the year before they launch the 991TT...so I am going to bet that the '12 7TT = '13 7TT other than perhaps some of the "usual" minor tweaks/changes they make for cost reduction/product quality improvement/supplier changes/etc...SAME CAR!
