Default 08 Turbo TipTronic issues

I just posted this over on the 997 forum but figured it would be good idea to post up here as well.

Ok so I am usually over on the cup car side but the bosses 08 Turbo is having a problem with the gearbox.
the local dealer said all the codes in the system point to gearbox failure.
they said the codes were indicating a speed difference between the input and output shafts.

They said he could shotgun a sensor on the box but doubted that was the problem and recommended a whole box at 30k

has anyone had a issue like this and what was the outcome.

just as a fyi.
the car is not driven every day but I have installed a new battery and had the Tiptronic emergency run thing come up on dash 2 times and on the second time CEL as well.

There are some issues with the tiptronic turbo 997 gearbox surfacing. I have read about several catastrophic failures but so far most were replaced under warranty. So the easy thing to do was just swap the gearbox.

However, since this is a Mercedes sourced gearbox there are enough independent shops that repair these type of boxes. No way you would need to spent 30K for a new one.

This has not be catastrophic yet.
I have driving the car and all seems well then it drops to 35 mph and has the red in dash emergency run thing.. I have found a 25k mile used box for 7k but am hoping its something less.

This car is just out of warranty and supposedly they can not do anything about it.
it only has 40k on it but time wise its out

There is a guy over on 6speed who specializes in modifying tip boxes for heavy hp applications. His name is Emre. Look him up, I am sure he has a qualified opinion to help you.

just posted this over in the regular section

Hello,
So dealer said it was a rpm difference in the gearbox in and out.
I spoke to Porsche and the Service manager and decided to take it back to them.
I have a Durametric tool in the mail but figured we would give Porsche a chance to fix it first with good will warranty.
boss has 4 1/2 Porsche's currently and had bought 3 of his last ones new so hoping they help out.

If they come back with a sorry we cant help you then I get to dig into it.
They said the sensor that "may" be bad is in the valve body so its definitely not a wheel sensor problem

Progress - that's good - hope Porsche steps up. Whose car is it - you say it's the bosses but it sounds like it's yours...or you're really doing the boss a favor.

I have a buddy/boss who has a large car collection.
I usually only deal with all his other stuff but when the dealer told him 30k for a gearbox he decided he just wanted to get a good used box and have me toss it in.
I would rather it get a proper new box if thats what it needs. So I decided to call around a bit and ended up speaking with Porsche who opened a case and had me contact the service manager.
It should go well considering he has a 08 turbo, 09 cup, 85 911, and 63 356 plus his last 3 street cars were all new porshce's bought and services by the dealer.

if they say no I will end up getting the one in it rebuilt/repaired or a used one but we are hoping they step up

Figured I would post a update in here about he gearbox on this car.
as we know I called porsche na and told them what was up they had me contact the service manager at porsche monterey who is actually also the bmw service manager at bmw of monterey.

Told him what was going on and that we would like to see if porsche would offer up some good will warranty.
I took the car back in the trailer and they drove it in the next few days then had it act up when the data logger was hooked up.
they uploaded that to porsche and they came back with it being a sensor issue as well
told us its 800 bucks customer pay which is great (3k sensor plus labor) and if it ends up being the whole gearbox after that it should be covered 100%.
So we should have it back in the next day or two
