Default '09 Turbo Cab, 2.5 yrs, TPMS gone crazy

For the past few weeks, I've noticed that, although nothing has changed with air pressure or anything else, even avg temps, I get a TPMS warning EVERY time I get in the car.

I've verified the pressures are perfectly set where they have been for two years (checked with pro gauge, cold and warm), and nothing has changed. When I get the warning, it will tell me one tire is - 4. I will go through the reset and programming when stopped, drive 10 minutes or so, it will rebalance and clear.

Then when I stop to park, the warning pops back up, might be a different tire this time. And right before I stop, I check pressure on the readout on the car, and it's 30/34, as set, or within one lb of that.

Sensors are only 2.5 yrs old. Tires are fine, been checked twice. Pressures are fine too. I AM running lower than factory because the factory reco's are for full load, and I am not running with a passenger and luggage. So I have been running 30 in the front, 34 in the rear, and that works well for me.

Again, been same pressures for 2 yrs. Is there a TSB on the sensors? TSB on the internal TPMS computer?

Very frustrating. Suggestions appreciated.

Aren't there batteries in the sensors that could go bad? (Not sure.) I'm at 3 years with my 09 TT and no problems.

Yes, avg life on sensor batteries is 5 yrs. I suspect it could be that, but seeing how the behavior is, I suspect it is more related to the 'receiver' rather than sensor.

30/34 seems a bit low.

Have you tried a higher inflation pressure to solve the -4 reading?

Not yet, but I've run that pressure for two years, no issues.

Based on temp readings, light load in vehicle, and other factors, that is a good number. But I'll probably bump it up tonight and see what happens.

It's just odd that things have been fine until recently.

Don't suppose you've inadvertently set the TPMS on the computer to partial load?

I have had similar issues, problem is that the base line pressure (from which you get the -4) is too high IMHO..
What can help sometimes as you are talking about a little solenoid of some sort I guess, is inflate the tires to much higher (regular psi? 33-39 or something), drive a bit and deflate them to the desired level again.

Yes, I boosted pressure cold on Friday to within 10% of factory full load numbers and the problem seemed to be eliminated, but need to do a bit more driving, then I may tweak the pressures down a bit more.

37 front/44 rear is just not needed on a non full load. Running 34/40 right now. Prefer a couple pounds lower...will test and report back.

Thanks for the tips.

That works for me, except when I got a slow flat.

Similar Doug Sharpes' experience, my '07 Turbo also needed all sensors replaced a few weeks ago. Fortunately the guys at Champion fixed it the first time around. Apparently this is not that unusual.

Bumped it the other night, and so far, no issues. We'll see what the weeks ahead bring.

Thanks for the input. Sensors appear to be fine (new at delivery Oct '09).

If you have the Durametric Pro version (i do) it tells you how many months are left in each wheel. last time I hooked mine up, it said 39 months.
