Default Performance Mods to 997.1 or .2 TT

From what I've heard, the 997.1 Mezger engine is more robust, desirable, and mod friendly compared to the 997.2. But by how much? All the mods I hear about are on 997.1 cars. What about a 2011 6M 997.2 TT? Or should I really go for the 997.1? I won't be tracking the car.

Questions:
1. I'd be happy with 650hp on 91-93 octane. Is that reliably achievable?
2. What are the hp and torque limits on a stock 997.2 engine? Transmission? Piston rods?
3. Have there been any reliability or durability issues on the stock 997.2 engine? How about modded 997.2 cars?
4. What exhaust mod sounds closest to a GT3 without droning or sounding like a farm tractor at low rpm? I am looking for a throaty, deep, but refined sound when pushed. On a few mods, the whine of the turbos sounded like fingernails on a chalkboard - not the desired effect!

Thanks

Do you have the 2011 997.2TT?

The 997.2TT does have better IC and larger turbochargers with the displacement increase.

You are not going to find a GT3 exhaust sound for the turbocharged flat 6. However, I suggest that you look at the Europipe exhaust system. Go to there website..

Thank you, Kevin! In fact I am eying future mods for a 2011-12 997.2. Most likely, I won't do engine mods until the warranty is up, but the exhaust is what I am really after as the sound desperately could use a deeper and throatier sound (without being obnoxious at idle and cruising speeds). Europipe, Fabspeed, Sharkwerks, Switzer are all on my research list... BTW, I am curious, was there ANY difference in the 2012 TT over the 2011 TT?...

I can recommend the Europipe... I really like the 100cpsi cats... they have allow the turbos to spool up much earlier... I can now see the boost gauge rise from around 1600RPM onwards.... sounds great too...

Consider the Akrapovics. Very subtle at idle but great when you push it. No drone and no tractor sound.
