Porsche otta use that flat 8 in the new 911s, but they're married to that consumer grade dfi for a long time to come, I'm afraid.
Just curious, which would you keep for the long haul, >100k miles, a 997.1 or the dfi 997.2?

How many weaknesses does this engine actually have over how many years?

I thought the main reason for the new turbo to have a blown version of the 9a1 dfi engine was so that the new PDK transmission could be used. The PDK doesn't fit the gt1 engine case. And, maybe not here on this forum, but the turbo automatic is a bigger seller than the manual. The beancounter at Porsche, won this one. They probably want the hardcore turbo enthusiast to buy the GT2Rs and pay for it. How many of the 997.1 turbos are really taken to the track?

Anecdotally I have seen as many Turbos as GT3s at the track. That said, I would bet that a relatively low percentage of Porsches see the track on any kind of regular basis. I always found it curious the PDK can't fit the GT1 block since it was born out of the 962 race program. If you can bolt up a hemi 4 speed to a small block Chevy why can't this be done??lol
