On a car like that, without knowing specs, $1k for a "normal car" or for a repeat customer, up to $5k if its a little odd. I would only consider something like $20k if it is really odd, i.e. red with a green and blue interior to sample. There aren't a lot of Turbo S allocations out there, but there should still be enough available that a $20k deposit for a normal car can be avoided.

Dealer accepted a lower deposit, in line with a customary one after I made a promise that he would not be stuck with the vehicle.

However, the other things mentioned still apply. The buyer wants to be very careful and inspect the order paperwork to make sure the car's optioned correctly. It is sometimes easy to make a mistake and if not caught in time the car can come in with the wrong option. It may be immaterial or it could be signficant. Check and double check. And check everything right up until the order is frozen.

Save all paperwork.

Also, the buyer wants to have something in writing when the car will arrive. As I mentioned if the car's not optioned too far out -- or even if it is -- the dealer will likely have more than one interested buyer. There is the person who put in the order and some other buyer some johnny come lately.

It is not unknown for a dealer to sell an ordered car to another buyer and then stall the 1st buyer. The 1st buyer needs to have some idea of when he can expect the car and if the car's delayed too long -- because of something the dealer is doing or did -- and he is unwilling to wait any longer being able to walk away with deposit refunded in full.

This gives some incentive to the dealer to honor what it has told the buyer. The car's on order and it is his when it arrives.

10% is normal for us. If 10% is more than 15K, then we will only take 15k usually unless it is a strange combo that might hurt the sale of the vehicle should the customer cancel. Congrats on your order!

$159,100 for Coupe and $170,200 for Cabriolet!

That's about $27,000 over base list for each without any options. All the performance options are standard that usually push the cost up almost $20,000. Add to that two tone leather as standard with sport adaptive seats with memory. Can't remember if the special metallic paints are a no charge option or not? Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Paint is no charge execpt for Color match. In my case the cost was the same a normal Turbo since I wanted all of the items that are STD on Turbo S. That is if the add ons are the same price as normal turbo. To this date still don't know final price have a signed buyers order for MSRP less discount.

That is a pretty penny, but next to a ferrari a good deal

Porsche is always a better car than Ferrari IMO....I have driven Ferrari's but only owned Porsches.

I'm amazed at the deposits that a few dealers are imposing upon buyers. I imagine that each sets that number on their own, based upon their past experiences. When I ordered my paint to sample Euro Delivery car (priced well into Turbo pricing) all that they wanted was $1K for a deposit.

^ It all depends on the dealers own policy...but there are common terms that most dealers follow.

Update: My Turbo S completed production last week (ahead of schedule). Expected arrival at the dealership is the second week in June.
