Since 2002 I drive them in our cold winter see the pic at -34celcius, my old 2002 4S, when I sell them I don't get a cent less and they handle very good in the snow better then other good cars this winter I will post some pics ...

To Bob's point - and sharing with the folks on the 997 board, my mistake on my last 911 was that I didn't enjoy the car all year round - I always had nice AWD vehicles and simply didn't want to risk someone sliding into it. As a result, when I sold the C2 cab - it only had 42,000 km which was a drag because I would have got about the same amount of money for it had I clocked 62,000 km on it - and the only one who benefitted on my not driving it in the winter was the new buyer. I have a 2010 TT (cab) arriving in March and my plan is to enjoy the blasted thing twelve months a year this time. Slap 4 snows on it for the winter and drive it (on a nice day mind you) because we are fortunate to have a Range Rover SC and RS4 all with winter wheels...but I fully intend to put 3,000 km through the winter months on it this time around....

I hope you had a heated garage...
All my daily drivers have engine block heaters, for the times when they're not in the heated (40degF) garage. Makes startup so much 'nicer' on the engine.

i have driven many awd porsche coupes (3 4ses and 3 turbos, most recently an 09 tt) this car has pirelli sotozeros on it-it drives just great in the snow. i would say 5 inches or less, no problem it can handle more, but 6 inches is easier

I hope to get a set of those Fuch wheels Edgy was talking about on the 997 board - and mount some 3D's on them for next winter when my TT arrives ...

Here in Connecticut, I drive my cars year 'round, too. But, if it is icy or snowy, I take my F150 4x4. It has a plow on it for my driveway anyway .... the Porsche does not.
If the roads are dry, I drive the car to work. If it is snow/ice ... I drive the truck. I feel more comfy in the truck than the Porsche in snow anyway. I don't have to worry about some fool sliding into my car and having some body damage done to it. That would not be kewl.
But, I think if you want to drive the car in the snow and cold .... that's great. And, I agree that 4 snows are needed. I'm no expert, but I'd get smaller wheels .... 18s max ... and smaller sneakers, too .... like maybe 225/245s. I had Dunlop M3s, because they gave pretty good performance on dry and good results in light snow and packed snow. But, I'd ask the Tire Rack.
