The new turbo is faster than the GT2 to 100 and 200kph because of the PDK giving very fast shifts and keeping the boost up. from 200 to 300kph requires power and a properly engineered turbo set up which resists heat soak (which the new turbo appears to suffer from)
The independant tests for the acceleration of the 997GT2 put it between 34-36s to 300kph (the surface and conditions make a big difference to times in this test) and the new turbo was tested at 41.xs.
After I seen the post and wrote realized it wasn't the 1/4 mile numbers but with 0-100km/h being 3.1 I wonder if 0-60 will be 3.0 or break into the 2.9's
I didnt see the exact article on the 0-100 km/h was trying to translate each page seperate on the one web site.
Used http://babelfish.yahoo.com/
http://www.sportauto-online.de/tests-978717.html
copied and pasted each page link where it says
"Translate a web page"
Then use the German to English drop box. Some times it works and converts a web page, sometimes it don't work right away but worth a try.
Try the converter and web page link and if someone has an exact page even in from Germany post it would like to try to use the converter.
Any other test out there from Europe?
It will be interesting once tuners come out with different kits for it.

I have a 996 Ruf R turbo and a Ferrari Challenge Stradale. I've been very interested in the next evolution of the 997 as well as the 458 Italia. My position is I only want to "jump" from the wonderful cars I have now to the new models if I'm significantly tugged, dazzled a bit. And on this score, I must admit to being underwhelmed by the newest Turbo. Aside from the PDK I just can't find anything to get much excited about, though I'm sure there are many significant small changes that add up to better performance. And visually, I'm feeling diminsihed marginal infatuation with, essentially, the same body design with minor tweaks. As several commentators have pointed out when comparing the 997 with, say, the R8, the turbo is beginning to look a bit dull. So the question I have is why didn't they spike it up this round, perhaps with some creative, enticing design elements, a bit rowdier engine, etc. Cost aside, and I admit to it being very significant, I can feel myself being pulled to "jump" to the 458, but not the new Turbo -- as great an all round car as the new Turbo will be. This is, of course, a personal view but I wouldn't be suprised if others share it.

I think that's always been true of Porsches.

Progress has always been evolutionary - step changes rather than bold new models.

As is often said, you buy a Porsche with the 'head' and a Ferrari with the 'heart'.

I'd gladly take a weight saving of 1-200lbs over another 20hp. How about some carbon fiber, like the GTR or heck even the M3?

Yup, I don't think any sports car should weight more than 1400kg myself, especially in today's CO2 phobic era. The Turbo is 200kg more than this!!

20bhp is no more than a token amount from Porsche in order to make customers with stock cars upgrade.

Anyone here run a company? When you are billions of dollars in debt, you tend to skimp on the product.
