We all know that Porsche doesn't make big jumps in horsepower but a measley 20 hp? The Ferrari 458 that is coming makes 570 hp which is a 90 hp jump.

I just don't get it? Porsche is losing the horsepower war!

With turbo power added to the new block, maybe they want to see how it holds up before adding any more HP. Too much HP and grenading motors would be way worse for Porsche than less HP and reliability. Just my .02

My understanding is that the new Gen 2 997TT incorporates a lot of small enhancements and developments that will add up to a much improved product.

Capacity is up, power is up, torque is up over a wider spread, weight is down almost 100kg, lots of new kit, improved performance, better economy.......Plus, I'm told, nicer to drive (more feel and feedback) and even sounds good (for a turbo). And, paddle-shift PDK will be the big area of interest.

Porsche rarely get it wrong, and this one should be a gem, but we still need to read the the early reviews for confirmation.

This is the performance of the new PDK turbo with "only" 500PS - it obliterates the competion, only those worried about their cars hp number reflecting on their manhood will be worried about 500PS or 489hp SAE

Tuners and out of warranty owners however....... that is when the fun will start

more like 550hp!

We will have to see the actual test numbers before judgement.

You've got the wrong badge on the hood if you're looking for "magic number" horsepower. The turbo has always been the Phallus Porsche, but they can only take that joke so far and keep their reputation intact (i.e., far enough to appease the numbers junkies and flaccid, middle-aged rich men lining up to buy it). If you're going drag racing, buy something out of mid-century Detroit with a pig iron motor you don't mind grenading and shoot it up with NOS like it's a heroin junkie. If you'd like to go around some corners with your 500+ HP, buy a Porsche.

Now for your Ferrari comparison, is the six-figure premium you're paying for 70 hp and a few extra buttons on your steering wheel worth it? Perhaps for some. But since when did Porsche give a **** about the "horsepower war?" Seems to me that they've been the perennial underdog in that department, getting beaten out by little Hondas in horsepower per liter, and big pushrod V8s in horsepower per dollar. Yet they stand firm on the middle ground, for sake of balance. Their 500 horsepower will be among the most exciting, useful, reliable and practical power your money can buy.

My $.02, enjoy your turbo. And there's always the aftermarket, or another carmaker, if you don't.

Actually, that's a very valid point - Porsche's quoted output figures have always been understated.

I've never had a turbo, but every n/a 911 I've ever had dyno'd has always developed better than expected corrected power and torque curves.

As you see from my signature I have gone the aftermarket
route and track my 700 hp beast. There is no doubt
that Porsche isn't going to be at the top of the hp war
but they do have to stay in the park.

I love the power my car has and would definately mod
a new one if I bought one.

Those are actual test numbers......its fkin rapid with PDK to 200kph..... from thereon upwards to 300kph it seems it's slower than the old one.

Been looking for a test or a post of the number only came up with 0-60

Was looking at the video of the test on the GT2.
They had the paperwork on it showing
0-200km/h as 11.2
The new turbo is really impressive to 200km/h as 10.8
4 tenths faster than the GT2.
Was the turbo around 40 some seconds to 300km/h?
This shows the GT2 as 33 seconds to the 300 km/h which must really turn on after the 200km/h

Look at the time of video at 1:55 and stop it there.Thats where the numbers are in the book on the GT2.

I didn't quote any numbers for the 1/4mile - not seen any.

The new turbo is faster than the GT2 to 100 and 200kph because of the PDK giving very fast shifts and keeping the boost up. from 200 to 300kph requires power and a properly engineered turbo set up which resists heat soak (which the new turbo appears to suffer from)
The independant tests for the acceleration of the 997GT2 put it between 34-36s to 300kph (the surface and conditions make a big difference to times in this test) and the new turbo was tested at 41.xs.

I wouldn't dismiss PDK just yet.

My source tells me that PDK has been more extensively developed, tested and atuned to the 3.8TT than any other model. Forget the old auto in the Tiptronic - this should be a proper manual with paddle shift actuators and, hopefully, a satisfying mechanical sensation as it changes up and down the box.

Can't be long before we find out.
