I don't care if it's a wet sump, dry sump or dry hump. It's been fast and reliable and that's all I care about.

I am confused by this thread, does this mean the 09 carrera's are bad then?

I really don't like the new direction they are taking this car. For what my opinion is worth I would never purchase one. Hopefully if the time ever comes for me they will have left the GT3 alone.

Any concerns are really about the 997.2 (MY2010) turbo, not the Carreras: C2s or C4s. Yes, those engines are different than their predecessors but were integrated dry sumps and still are; although an even better engine now, imo.

If I hear "integrated dry sump" one more time I will puke. There is no such thing! It is either a dry sump or a wet sump, and these engines are WET SUMP. Porsche is just using newspeak.

No they're not bad at all. But the issue here is Porsche has replaced the hard core, over engineered true dry sump engine. The new carrera based wet sump engine is much less costly and yet the price went up? This is a bean counter/ marketing decision. The GT3 guys better smoke 'em while they got 'em cause their dry sumps are the next to go!

Absolutely correct; this substitution particularly galls me and underlies my order cancellation. Although an imperfect analogy, it is similar to purchasing a Patek with complications, opening the case and finding a movement manufactured in China.

You know they're not going to call it a wet sump.

Any way you want it. Porsche calls it integrated, so I refer to it that way.

I am curious, if an engine (Porsche aside) has a sump -with all of the other attributes of a true dry sump- contained within the cofines of the case(s), is it a wet sump to you? I mean other than being inside the case(s) it would (or could) still operate the same way a sump contained outside the engine would, right?

I think they said the same thing when the watercooled the 911. Or when they got rid of the torsion bar suspension.

2010 Turbo Order guide states:

Interesting......

Very interesting. Thanks.

Someone has to, so I'll open up the can of worms. Is it a misprint or is this engine a dry sump with a separate oil tank; I would think the former.

I won't buy a Porsche with a PDK ... I don't give a crap how fast it is to 62 mph. I wanna shift for myself.

I went thru this same/same deal with the last M5. PDK ... or paddle shifting by any other name is not for me ... unless Luca Badder gives me his seat.

BTW, these P-cars become more and more full of gadgets and electronics. I was more of a fan of the 'older cars' and the sense of a true sports car without all the amenities. But, evolution continues I guess.
