Default New C4S with PDK or used 997TT with Tiptronic

Hi there,

Finally, in about 2-3 weeks time, I will have the needed money to purchase my dream car, which off course, is a modern Porsche !

The local dealer has a new C4S with PDK -- Atlas grey exterior with natural brown interior

Another dealer has a used 997T (year 2007) with Tiptronic -- Macadamia exterior with natural brown interior (2800 miles, 1 owner)

Prices are almost the same, but I am scared with the Tiptronic transmission in the 997TT, as once I test drove a 997 C2S with this transmission and felt it was terrible: up or down shifts very slow ! Not too inspiring...

I know the 997TT is in another league compared to the C2S, but is the Tiptronic intuitive enough and are the shifts quick enough ?

I know the C4S with PDK is a new car and the transmission is incredibly fast, intuitive, etc..

I have not test driven any of theses 2 cars yet, but what are your thoughts ? What would you do ?

I plan to keep the car for a very long time, not a daily driver, but the weekend toy !

I would say the TT even with the tip. The TT has taken most of the early depreciation hit whereas the C4 hasn't even started.

If you must go automatic...just test drive them both...they are completly different cars. Once you drive a turbo I would be very surprised if you didn't buy it.

It seems the general consensus is against a 997TT with Tiptronic

Thanks for your info, I really appreciate it !

You should give the tip a try. I drove a C4 with manual for six years, now I have a 996TT with a tip and it works fine. I bought it for auto-x; I've autocrossed it for about 50 events and it shifts into first a lot faster than I could in my C4. Really nice for keeping the turbo spooled up. Not as many DEs so far, only 8 events but its worked well there too. If you drive it hard, that is hard on the throttle and hard on the brakes, it will shift fast at redline, and downshift as you're braking. On the street it will act like any other auto tranny. Now as to whether or not you want a Porsche with a tip, that's a personal decision. But mechanically, they work well.

If you want good information about the turbo tip, read some of Alexander Stemers posts.

Get the C4S, or a TT with 6-speed the old Tip is going to be a dinosaur soon (if its not already).

Definitely drive both. I happen to love my TT/tip, so there's a vote the other way .
