Anyone have an experience with a missed shift consequently over-revving the engine.

not in a 911. just my stealth(also a TT), and it killed the engine in protection. waited a few, started up, let it run for a few and drove off. burned the clutch 2 days later.

if you're asking because you did, start the car(in the driveway) try to listen for any metallic noises in the engine, have the lid up. if you hear anything, shut it off, and go to a dealer/shop. i'm guessing it'd be covered under warrenty. if you don't hear anything it should be ok, just pay attention to it for a while.

 

I would be really surprised if damage to an engine caused by a missed shift would be covered under warranty.

 

First thing to do is get the oil changed and have the tech cut open the oil filter to look for any metal shavings or other evidence that badness has happened. How high did the revs get? Did you come all the way off the clutch before you caught it? I also agree the warranty will probably not cover damage ensuing from a missed shift.

 

A missed shift resulting in over-reving will not be covered by the warranty. The ECU keeps track of all over -reving situations. I beleive there are 2 types of over -revs recorded. it is up to your dealer to determine if it will be covered under warranty. Some dealers will not and neither will Porsche. It just depends if the dealer will worek for you with Prosche.

 

all of the above having been said, the 997 turbo motor is a tank; unless you WAAAAY overreved it, you're probably fine.

 

How did you over rev it? On the street or track? Most cases, you'll be fine. Change the oil and cut the filter to see if there's anything there. Probably over kill, but don't call in the Battalion if there's just a few enemy taking pot shots at ya, know what I'm sayn?

Will do the oil change and look for metal shavings in filter. No, did not come all the way off of the clutch - RPMs hit 7900 at the most for a split second.

 

On the street. I gotta believe a lot of guys, if they are really driving their cars are going to miss a shift at some point in time. This happened about a week ago, and the TT still runs great.

 

from what you said actually happened the motor and drive train should be fine. change your oil check the filter but as said these motors are pretty bullit proof.

 

7900, I wouldn't even worry about it.

I have been hitting my 7300 rpm redline almost daily for the last 2 years. 7900 for a split second is not going to do anything. don't worry.
