Doesn't have a "raw" feeling? This car will kick your *** six ways from Sunday if you want it to...

if this is your first porsche, try a pre-owned 996tt first. they are relatively cheap and a good way to get into indoctrinated with porsches. you can always get a cpo car with full warranty from a porsche dealer if you are concerned about major repairs but you will pay more.
here's an idea of wholesale cost on 996tt:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turbo-forum/321599-broker-deals.html
02 Turbo $54500 to $58500.
03 Turbo $56500 to $66500.
of course you can get both a used 996tt and 996gt3 for the price of a new loaded 997tt
btw, you didn't say what rawness you are looking for. any porsche will have rawness to enjoy or scare the poo out of you (unless you are an accomplished driver.) join pca and sign up for driver's ed track events to really enjoy your porsche.

I guess I should elaborate on the "raw" comment. By "raw" I mean connected, without the feel of all the electronics doing the work. Kind of like the old 993 turbo feel. By the way thanks guys for the advice.... like I said earlier, I just can't see myself paying the 10k over msrp for the gt3 and not even consider a turbo. I would also like to track to car, no more than 2-3 times a year and it seems like the turbo will be just fine. I love my dilemma

The nice thing about Porsche is that a base 997 can feel as raw as a GT3 in the hands of an experienced driver on the track. The great thing about Porsche is that when you want to relax and enjoy the commute it does that well too.

I owned a 996TT before my GT3, and have driven the 997TT. If I could only have one car, it would be the GT3. I do plan however to pair it with a 997TT Cab.
The GT3 is just mind boggling. The TT is probably a better all around daily driver, the GT3 really beats you up, it's even hard to talk in it. So, I just listen.

turbo was my choice

The second reason for the turbo choice was the GT3's slower acceleration. I liked the turbo's quicker 0-60 much better. The GT3's 0-60 was too close to my M3s acceleration spec which I was trying to improve on. Still a tough choice, but for the same price, I would go turbo...makes more sense. European car for May has a good article on street-driveability of the GT3.
Yeah, uh, the TT is real stealth.

I had lunch with well known Porsche racing driver at Amelia Island last weekend. Asked him whether he'd rather drive the Turbo or GT3 RS. Without hesitation, he said he'd rather have the Turbo. GT3 RS too harsh for the street, and not a truly serious track car. Thinking about it, I remembered that when the 73 Carrera RS was introduced, it could win Daytona or Sebring and still be reasonable for the street. As racing has advanced, the distance between street and serious track cars has become huge.

Turbo. You can drive to the office all week long, take your wife to a nice dinner and to the track on the weekend. While you're at the track you can run down any GT3 in site. What other car can do these things?
