Borla Exhaust needs your help
Hi,
This is David Borla of Borla Performance located in Oxnard, California www.borla.com. We are in the process of developing our exhaust for the 997TT and would like some input from the Porsche community regarding design elements. Obviously, we will be implementing our patented XR1 muffler technology but we are interested in knowing what 997TT owners are looking for regarding sound, tip style, performance etc. Any input you can give us would be greatly appreciated. You can email me at davidb@borla.com if you would like to give us some input.
Thanks for your help

Dave, what's most important is zero resonance...if that's possible. I think you could make this car sound better w/o being rough around the edges. Some how it's acceptable with a Vette but I wouldn't accept it with this car.

Email sent as well. I would like to say that the stock exhaust is ridiculously quiet on the 997TT.
I personally feel the exhaust needs a deeper note all across the rev range without it sounding like a rice burner. My Bentley Continental GT sounded 100 times better than this car. Drone/Resonance should be kept at a minimum, but we need to hear this engine.

If you make a quaility product that makes 'quality sound' at a reasonable price - (others are not reasonable), and is lighter you'll have a hit. The Turbo is the world's best sportscar, but it sounds awful. Most owners will opt to change it.
(I don't have a TT know, i own a C2 which I love, but I want more. I plan on having one in 3 years.)

I hope everyone is emailing him the ideas you have. I did and he responded the next day to say he is away at SEMA this week and will call me next week. I think if we all give him ideas about it they can turn out a kick a** exhaust system or give 2 sound options, as well as some different tip styles.

Hi David, I have your 12" XR-1 on my '91 911 turbo (cut out the B&B muffler that had cracked): great sound, no resonance, great power, light weight.
This is the best place to gather info on exhaust needs of your customers.

I agree 100% Lager. When I had my C6 I put the Borla system on it. At idle it sounded great and at speed it sounded pretty damn good.....but in 5th and 6th gear, the resonance was pretty bad. I didn't care for the "pop pop pop" when slowing down and letting off the throttle either. It just seemed better prepared for the musle car crowd.
