New 997 tt will have an integrated ipod.
The ipod can be plugged in a docking station in the trunk. With the PCM you can control the ipod. Even with the multi function steering wheel option you can control the ipod. This integration seems to be the best one on the market. If you have ipod photo or video, you can watch the photos and videos you have stored in your ipod.
This option will be from start, about 600 Euro.

Sobe, where did you get this information from? Will it be available for the 997 NA models? what will be the start build date for this option? Does it have an official Porsche option code? Will it be retro-fittable? etc. etc....

Anyways ferrari already has it.
In the trunk though? Why not via the glovebox like everyone else? Why is apple so dedicated to making you get out of your car and open the front to get to your media?

The glovebox is a better location, though I think Ipods blow anyway. We have two minis and two nanos, and the things are constantly requiring soft resets, displaying error messages, etc. And the MAC people say Windows is bad!

it would likely roast an iPod's internals after a few weeks.
then again, I've left my iPod on the dash in our rental in the sierra desert for a day in early december, and it was Ok.
The trouble with having more than one iPod is that I'm constantly putting new and more music on mine, updating playlists, etc...
Why not just run one from under the dash our out the glovebox? Is it really THAT hard?

Ronmart,
I think you're on the money with your thoughts....It seems the simplest solution to use the pre-wired MOST fibre hookup in the trunk, and if that's the reason, It would almost certainly be retro-fittable across the 997 range....Typical though, we've been waiting for an ipod hookup from Dension for literally years, and now there's a distinct possiblity that there will be two products available.....Dension had better hope it has a better feature set, or they are going to find it awfully tough to recover there R&D/MOST subscription costs......

I was frustrated that there is no provision for an i-pod on my new 997. However, the PCM does run MP3 files. I have just converted some of my i-pod tracks to MP3 and with 3 CDs, I now have 24 hours of music. On random selection, I have the best radio station on the planet without adverts and nerds interrupting the music I want to hear. I still have over 40GB of music to convert to MP3 but as someone has already pointed out, the PCM is far more robust than an i-pod that requires rebooting from time to time.
