Can anyone offer advice went to trackday sat car went well Sunday was going to go drag racing but heard terrible noise coming from front diff put car on hoist removed front wheels put in drive when turning hard left sounded like real loud clicking noise also hub stopped turning on left side but all good when turning hard right so am thinking could it be circlip on l.h cv axle gone and allowing c.v to partly disengage seems to be good in straight line and turning hard right hope someone can help
thanks Bob
If it were me, I'd drain the diff fluid and get a look at it, and then make a gameplan. If that looks good, I would probably pull that left axle and look at the joints. And if all that looks good, I guess I would be shopping for a new diff.
Well pulled axle out checked inner cv ball bearing and cage look all good so have dropped diff pulled cover on rh side plate off all seems good spins and no noises can't work out where rumblin coming from the rumbling definitely was coming when turning tight left any ideas
Can’t help you but the PTM controller looks at steering angle and lateral G forces… amongst other things for it to decide what to do to that front clutch. Maybe that’s why you can’t replicate those sounds.?? Just a guess.
Pull fuse C1, this removes power to the PTM and thus no torque is delivered to the front diff. Take it for a drive and see what noises you get. Put C1 back in and take for the same drive. This may or may not tell you anything, but it’s a start.
I also recall a previous thread here from someone who experienced juddering at low speeds, disconnecting the front diff oil temp sender stopped the juddering.
There are so many data inputs which help the PTM controller “decide” what to do that unravelling it is a mystery.
Good luck, and keep us updated with progress. I also have a front driveline noise which is untraceable - it’s driving me nuts.
Ok had cv checked today all ok inner and outer so getting diff checked next week I think you may be right could be pcm problem so will put back together next week pull fuse and check see if problem still exists if ok will try and reset pcm
Ok have pulled front axles and diff out had diff checked all ok so checked out l.h axle as this is where I thought clunking was coming from but that was also ok but wheel bearing didn't feel to good so have replaced then checked r.h axle outer cv was quite rumble so had reconditioned they also said axle had slight bend so they straghtend don't know how that happened but did notice copper grease on cv spline and axle thread so I think maybe someone prior to me replaced with second hand axle maybe out of damaged car so all back together now just road tested and no noises from front.thank goodness
