need referral for shop in DWF area to do coolant lines and clutch upgrade on 997.1 TT
Hoping someone here has had coolant pipes/elbows fixed and/or a clutch upgrade done in the DFW. If so, please share your experience, both good and bad, with shops in or around Dallas. Given this will be engine out, I will also have a bunch of other maintenance done. I know I'm looking at $10K+, I just want to be able to trust the work was done right and not get gouged.

I would be sure to add pinning the cams to your major list while the engine is out.
I am looking at doing this as well later this year. With a Sachs 2.5 clutch, GT2 slave, replace very rubber hose, pin cams, pin lines, etc, I'm looking at over $15k here in my area. Would love to hear what numbers you get.

Yeah...what's another $5K if I plan to keep the car for 5+ years.

i don't think pinning the cams tacks on $5k. i am guessing maybe $2k? protomotive charges $600 to pin them. engine is already out, just have to crack it open, send him the cams, put them back in, and retime. oversimplifying of course but i think that is the gist of it.
my shop said the last 997.1 they did was ~$15k for clutch and coolant lines. they ship to BBI for pinning. this customer did not pin the cams.
i have seen the code for P0021 on my car once so i'm very aware it's something that does happen.

Give Charley Lacy a call at Innovative Autosports https://innovativeautosports.com/. They've done my coolant pipes, changed my clutch, and other general maintenance since I've owned my 997.1tt (since 2017). I've been very satisfied with their work.

for what it is worth that $15k number for the previous customer included parts and labor, including the clutch/flywheel, and GT2 slave. the clutch parts alone are around $3k or so i think.
i'm really curious to know what kind of numbers OP gets.

Initial quote for GT2 clutch upgrade, coolant lines and water pump is ~$9K. Dropping the car at Innovative Autosports in Carrolton TX next week. Will post receipts when the work is done.

I did my own work, but I did get a quote from RAC about a year ago, was about 3k for the labor plus the very basic parts, but most likely would end up being in the 5k range with all the “while you are there” type stuff.
I did all my own labor but took my fittings to Bennett MotorWorks for the actual glueing/pinning work.

Still need to get shop’s advice re need for cam pinning. Will post quote with parts and labor after the shop takes a look at my car next week.

While it will be more expensive, if you can cover it while you have the engine out, you will eliminate one of the issues that face these engines. With the other work you are doing, you will go a long way in assuring trouble free operation.
I would also add any rubber you can't reach with the engine in the car, especially the ends of the turbo coolant lines. They will swell and leak at some point. While the part is not inexpensive for both, you can easily modify the rubber ends and re-use the metal portions.

The cam slippage seems to be a 2007 - 2008 issue, but I found these comments in other threads:
"A lot fewer 09s were made so that's why we don't hear about those model years failing. Rest assured, all .1's are impacted."
and
"Again, it seems like the 07s and 08s were most affected, but any year can have it happen"
I also found comments about old posts from 2008 - 2011 where the part was replaced under warranty by an unpinned Porsche part and then having to get them pinned later anyway. So.... I am not sure that 2009's are immune. I will continue to look if I see anyone saying they have a 2009 that had a spun cam.
