Plus 1 to that. I had no CEL or any other indication that would have alerted me to having a spun cam that was about 85-90% blocked. Only found out through the preventive maintenance route.

I pulled both, but in retrospect I am not sure why. I don't think there is any issue just pulling the intake cams.

I'm used to working Japanese cars, and this type of clamp I have never seen. Argh

edit: I think it's "ear clamp", so now I have an idea

edit again: Okay, yeah, I have to cut it off, I'm guessing from the factory there were all these ear clamps and at some point, somebody cut the others off and replaced them with worm clamps. I'm also guess if you upgrade to something like the IDP plenum, you would have cut all the ear clamps and replaced them with worm clamps.
Those clamps are Oetiker clamps for the sake of keeping it OE. You get a tool for them, but they can be crimped using a set of snips if need be.

I called every machine shop and Porsche service center I could find in Northern California and nobody would touch my spun cam, so off to Arkansas it went to Todd @ Promotive. After what feels like an eternity with shipping across country back and forth (I'm cheap, ground shipping for me), got my fixed cam back today! Huge kudos to Todd, his turn around was super fast, he fixed it the same day he got it and shipped it back out the next day. Looks fantastic! Now I can finally start putting the car back together!

I have plans this weekend, but I'm going to try and sneak some time away into the garage.

It's been a few weeks and I'm making good progress. I should have the engine back together and ready to put in by the end of the weekend! I did a good job taking detailed pics of the engine, so I am figuring out where everything goes and how to route all the lines (it's much easier taking it all apart lol). However, for the life of me, I can't figure out where this one bracket goes, if anybody knows, that would be awesome!

It's attached to the right side coolant line somewhere under the air intake, I'm just not sure where, I've tried putting it all the obvious places, but it's not lining up right.

engine all cleaned up and about 3/4th's back together

This is the bracket I can't figure out where it goes. I can't find it in the parts catalog either to know.

I assumed maybe it would go on one of these two spots, but it doesn't really line up right.

Any lifelines would be appreciated! I don't want to proceed until I figure this out on the chance that the bracket requires me to remove the air intake to fit properly.

Here is a different angle. Funny enough that is one of the items I did not remove.

Thanks guys! That's it! My issue was I needed to move the oil tank around, the main hard oil line was hitting the cooling lines and didn't let them line up properly. Once I position the main oil tank properly, the bracket alignment finally made sense. Appreciate the quick responses!

it does go here.

proper home found!

Ed out here making me look like I didnt take nearly enough pix! I had a lot of the left side, but hardly any of the right side. Need to step up my game. Also, should have seen it before I put it in, it was much cleaner then this pix! Wish I had taken more pix.

Glad you got it worked out. Take some of Ed's smarts and take a lot of pix while it's out!

As Xavier says, I have had a similar experience when I did mine.. The drop took 2 days (Sat/Sun) my first time.. Then the disassembly/pinning/etc. took a few weeks as I probably spent more time cleaning and inspecting than anything else :-)

Mine went back in probably as clean as the day it was installed in Germany..
That is hella clean - impressive to say the least!

Update for the day. Made great progress and thought I'd share something that might be useful for some.

First, got bank 2 turbo installed, a bit of a struggle, but I finally got it in. One more turbo to install tomorrow and then this engine is about ready to go back in!

As we all know, the new taller coil packs don't work with cylinder 6, the wastegate actuator interferes with it. Not sure how others are dealing with it, but this is what I did.

first, I bought some low profile bolts. These are them

then I used a drill and drilled out a bit of the materiel on the coil pack to recess the bolt a bit

looks like this, didn't take much material off, and it was very easy as it's mainly plastic.

then installed the bolt, it's now recessed a tad.

no clearance issues at all with the wastegate (vgt) actuator installed. Even with the low profile bolts, it won't fit on cyl 6 unless you recess the hole a bit.

Hopefully that's helpful for others as I don't think you can buy the older coil pack versions anymore that worked without needing any modifications.

So for tomorrow, I need install bank 1 turbo, and then also finish plugging up some of the old hydraulic clutch system fluid sources as I swapped over to a GT2 style system. Staring to get excited, even though I still have a decent amount of work left.
