Need a bank 1 intake cam. Part number I was given is 997 209 73.
Would like to fine one domestically if possible.

Is that the correct (current) part number for that cam?
Are spun cams generally replaced or repaired? What's involved in the repair?

You guys are amazing. Watching those videos gives me anxiety. I would never remember where to put everything back. For goodness sake, I have some mechanical skills but I can't even get the lift in my garage to work right. HA

I tagged every hose and took tons of photos/videos to help with reassembly, and got really familiar with the parts catalog. Once you get the lift working, you can get this done as well!

Edit: is this your town?!

Jay - I tuned into every one of your videos on the 997 engine out repair, and I can't thank you enough for documenting this process! I see you're based in Tennessee. You're not in the Nashville area by chance, are you?!

I have got a buddy helping me drop the engine out of my 07 997 turbo over this weekend. I bought the Sharkwerks replacement hoses, elbows, and we'll pin the coolant lines.

Do you happen to have the torque specs handy, or know of some place I can find them?

Thanks for reaching out, I appreciate that. Glad the videos helped, that job is no joke.

Yes, I’m based in Tennessee now, about 50 miles south of Nashville.

I don’t have the torque specs in front of me, and it’s been about six years since I did that engine-out service, so I don’t want to give you anything inaccurate from memory.

That said, most of what you’ll run into on that job is standard metric hardware. The M10 fasteners are where you’ll see the higher torque values, everything else is more moderate, but I’d strongly recommend verifying against a proper source before tightening anything critical.

Best places to check:
  • Porsche PET (for part references)
  • Alldata or Mitchell 1 (for torque specs and procedures)
If you want, I can send you the workshop manual I used when I did mine, it’ll have everything laid out properly.

Good call on the Sharkwerks hoses and pinning the coolant lines, you’re already ahead of the common failure points.

Let me know if you get stuck anywhere during the drop
Could use a reason to leave the house lol

The Service Manual is posted in places around here.
In addition I did a bunch of engine out service on my gt3 and have a DIY here that has a lot of torque values. Hopefully it can help you some. Porsche generally uses the same value for one size of fastener so that makes it easier.
