997.2 (2011) 911TT. The passenger window drops the 1/4" when opening from either the outside or inside but immediately returns to full UP position when either handle is released. When I close the door the window hits the seal. If I hold either handle out a bit the window stays dropped. Thoughts? What would cause this faulty window action? The window should stay dropped until shut.

Window Regulator need to be replaced. I had the same symptoms on my 996tt.
When you open the door and the window goes back up, are you able to push it down slightly. I was able to do this and based on that was told the regulator line was stretched.

Your car has multiple microswitches in your door allowing it to know when the door is open and closed and how the window should be positioned accordingly. It sounds like the microswitch in your door latch assembly needs to be replaced. I had the exact same issue on my 997.1 GT3. The microswitches in your interior and exterior door handles are working fine since the window will drop slightly when either is pulled. The door latch microswitch isn't relaying that the door is still open so your window goes back up.
Here is what you need to do. Get inside the car. Insert the key. Lower your window. Next step is important. Raise the window but keep it held up. The window will juggle up and down. Done.

It's going to be the latch assembly. The latch senses when the door is opened and closed. The latch is what signals the window to drop and raise for the indexing feature. You will either need to repair or replace the latch.
Awesome! I'll tear into it next week and let you know what I find. I had a similar issue with my Viper a few years ago. Just can't remember the cause. ...Probably a microswitch...from a Dodge Caravan.
Yup, it's the microswitch for the latch, not the one for the handles. It's just like Milazzo said up above, since the latch microswitch isn't functioning the computer thinks the door is closed and rolls the window back up. This is why the window normally rolls up when you shut the door as the latch microswitch is triggered. Since it's broken it triggers the window to roll up as soon as you let go of the handle.
This is a common issue and you'll find many threads on it over in the regular (non-turbo) 997 forum. The good news is that the microswitch is cheap compared to the motor.
That's the one for the handle that rolls the window down. The latch microswitch (which rolls it back up) may be the same part number but don't count on it.
I tore into it yesterday. The lock module was the culprit. The video above was very helpful. I'll add that the door panel clips are a one-time-use item. I picked up some new clips for a few bucks and all went together well. Thanks all.
Nice one. I had this fail on my passenger door. Latch mechanism at fault. Picked up a new
one off eBay - universal part across a ton of VAG vehicles, think about $30. Hardest part is getting the door apart to replace it!
