2011 997.2 Turbo S - What problems should I look for?
All, I recently had the good fortunate of finding a 2011 Turbo S with 30K miles on it and appears to be in really good shape. I am not local to the car, bur giving it very serious consideration. I called up the local Porsche Dealer and inquired about doing a PPI, but to my surprise they don't appear to offer a very detailed inspection (sounded like I could do a better job myself). They only offered up doing a basic PPI for $140, and a more "advanced" PPI for $280. The more advanced one included throwing on a diagnostic scanner to look for over revs. Not exactly the professional detailed inspection I was looking for. LOL
I plan to continue looking for a better and more reputable shop to do a real PPI, but in the meantime, can anyone point me to an existing thread or tell me what in particular I should pay close attention to for a 997.2 Turbo S? IE, what "known issues" are there that I should look for in particular. For obvious reasons I don't want to get stuck with someone else's problem. Any advice you can offer would be VERY much appreciated! Thanks!

I didn't even get a PPI on my car I bought sight unseen with 8350 miles 2500 miles from my house. Got it home on a closed car carrier a week later, 4 years ago and haven't had 1 real problem with it yet. Just buy it and enjoy it. I DID buy an extended 7 yr 70000 mi warranty though. Just in case.

Thanks for the quick replies! Just about every generation car has that "one" or two things that they are known for, which is why I asked. I'll still look to have a through inspection done, but good to hear from multiple folks that they really aren't aware of any serious common problems. @Akkord29 I'll let you know if I end up closing the deal. Hoping someone doesn't beat me to it - it just came on the market yesterday so hoping I still have the lead on it. Just need to come to an agreed upon price. Thanks!

I think your main questions will be around cosmetics and deferred maintenance items - i.e. how long since plugs, coils, trans fluid, brake fluid, pads, tires, etc.

@PorscheStrong - as obvious as that is, checking those basic things is very telling of how well the rest of the car was maintained. Short of getting actual maintenance records, that is probably the best indicator I have to go on. Thanks!

As others have said, no real common complaints. I would still check the DME for seeing if there are range 3 over revs, potentially indicating a tune was on the car even though that isn't really an issue. The PDK units could be a problem, but even that is very uncommon.

I've been looking at these a bit lately and agree with considering the overall condition and maintenance done vs. specific problems.
Just be prepared that any $100k car can have a big repair bill too.
I'm assuming it's a 6sp given you are asking about over-revs?
Trans/clutch condition, coolant lines, PCCB nics...
Relatively cheap to replace the gear oil and look at the metal on the plug. Furr is fine chunks not so much.

@cmarkovits did it work out?
So my Out the Door cost (Tax, tags, Title, etc.) should come to just under $87.6K, which I think is a pretty good price (?). It is a 2011 911 Turbo S w/ 30,250 miles, 7 spd PDK and Ceramic Disk Brakes, Black on Black with Moonroof, and the usual extras like heated seats, Bluetooth, XM Sat Radio, etc.

Akkord29 - So I literally just got off the phone with the dealer and put a deposit down. They took it in for a PPI yesterday and got me the report this afternoon. Car has 30K miles on it so the 30K maintenance was due. So they are doing plugs / coils, oil & filter, and any other items on the 30K maintenance list. Cost came to just under $3K and should be done by Friday.

Good price and glad they're doing the service for you BUT, the services go off of TIME as well as mileage. That car, if not done yet, WILL BE DUE for the PDK and AWD controller service.
I bought my 2012 in April of 2018 and put 7 K miles on it so far with ZERO issues, however I did do the PDK, AWD controller services and then did the 60K / 6 Years service (plugs and such). I also elected to replace the Coils while in there, but they aren't required. The Coil packs in these are way better than the older versions. But I didn't want to take the chance and have to go back in there later. I just did it all while there.
So, I know you've made the deal already but I'll schedule the approx. $600 PDK / AWD service Soon.
Also, if you're going to tune it, consider getting the COBB PDK tune also. I did and LOVE the way it drives and the shift strategy it has now. A simple OTS Cobb Stg. 2 tune w/ pdk tune really helps these cars come alive.
